Arlington has a ban on feeding wild birds.

Citation please. Most DCUM readers have trouble with reading comprehension.

This has to be a joke. It’s illegal to have a bird feeder for sing birds??

I live in Arlington. It's illegal to feed wildlife like deer and foxes, but not birds. Jeez.

There was a temporary ban due to some mystery virus a few years ago. Again, it was temporary. There's no current ban AFAIK.

Out in Loudoun, I saw a coyote standing on the shoulder of the road in the middle of the day, digging into a roadkill deer carcass. Normally they're too shy and reclusive to be out in public like that, but this thing needed the groceries.

Looking forward to the warmer temps and increased melting this week.

Coyotes are going to become less shy because we aren't threats. In fact, our trashcans and dumpsters are a source of food. Expect them to become bolder.

One morning last week, after very cold night, I was at Rio Shopping Center (Gaithersburg) which has a lake. Workers were picking up dead Canadian Geese and there were at least 20 of them (with pieces of ice still stuck). Some of them got stuck on the ice (body temp melts and freezes) and died overnight. It was a sad sight.

That’s horrible.

I guess ICE gets its share of immigrants from Canada, too.

If you know of someone who is feeding wild animals then what they are doing is against the law and you really need to call the police on them.!

It’s so cold that the Zoo has a waiting list for animals who want to stay there.

I would never.

It's illegal in my county to feed wild animals, but they are trying to avoid people who set up feeding troughs or bait them.

It's not about a deer getting into your bird feeder or a racoon checking out your trash.

Everybody is worried about the mammals & birds. What about the microbes? Just because you can’t see them, it doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

I have stopped showering to help end the massacre.

Microbes don’t have a CNS and so they are not sentient.

This sounds like something eukaryotes would say.

They survive in Canada all winter long. They will adapt.

It really varies. Particularly harsh winters mean first, more calories needed and second, more difficulty getting calories--deep snow, ice crust on snow, etc, and if it extends too far into what would be spring they certainly can die. But even what the region is dealing with now isn't going to be like that. State wildlife agencies monitor conditions and in some cases take steps to help deer populations survive.

I'm posting from a northern state. We had a recent extended deep cold snap. I have raspberries I planted two years ago. There were a lot of canes after their leave dropped, but after the cold snap I realized that the rabbits had devoured them, and the few canes standing above the snow are striped bare of bark. Apparently I will need to look at rabbit fence for them this summer. Sucks because the canes fruit in the second year.

I'm proud to say I personally host billions on and in my body. Who else is doing their part?
I'm thinking of getting a microscope to use with a mirror so I can say hi to the little heads of mites popping up out of follicles around my eyes.

Me, either. I definitely don't "really need to call the police on them."
