Meant to add: they had an award ceremony for them. There were a bunch.

Given the errors associated with the boundary review, it’s no surprise FCPS misreported. It seems highly unlikely that all the commended students at South Lakes just opted out of public recognition.
Zero may be correct. Rooted in Oakton made sure that the Fox Mill and Floris kids who currently attend SLHS would be accounted for as having attended West County HS.

Don't notice the higher enrollment....

Haven't read this whole thread but there are at least 10-15 South Lakes students omitted from the list (kid goes there, got commended, I know at least 10 from ceremony child told me). May have been closer to 20. It's a mistake by FCPS to omit the entire school.

That has nothing to do with this current years list because those kids are still at SLHS. The reports are that there were commended kids at SLHS and that FCPS made some massive mistakes in the list they released. SLHS is not a school that has a lot of Commended, NMSF, of finalists but they have some. All of the schools with 0 have some.

You can read a thread and go no one cares for a variety of reasons. I have no idea that there were commended students until the big scandal a few years back. I didn’t think much of the scandal because, well, no one cares about commended students. You don’t hear about them except in forums like this one or when someone makes a stink over the kids not being recognized.

The kids had really high scores on their PSAT. They probably have high scores on their SATs. They got more interest from colleges because of the high PSAT score but are not in the very top group. So….

So looks like we have two options here:

1. Gatehouse’s usual dysfunction and incompetence, or
2. Intentional to support some nefarious plot related to the boundary study by the queen and her court.

Gatehouse is increasingly bloated and yet they are STILL incompetent and unable to deliver on even the most basic tasks.

Quite seriously:

- Michelle Reid really should resign in disgrace at this point.

The difference is not quality of material — it’s structure, discipline, and feedback.

Im the PP with the 10th grader with a 1560 - he exclusively used Khan Academy - no classes, books, etc. He set a schedule of like 20-30 minutes a day of practice and then practice tests. Its very good content - the kid just has to be motivated, which is not always easy.

It was only a “scandal” to Fox News types typing to spin up hysteria over students who couldn’t be bothered to check their school email and received their certificate a few weeks late.

One thing FCPS can always count on are people who'll explain away their screw-ups, for one reason or another. Lucky for them, because they screw up often.
