Drag queen assembly?

Completely agree with this.

I have zero issues with drag queen performances *for adults*. But not for kids, and I would keep mine out of school as well. I’d also let the principal know that I wasn’t okay with it.

No idea if they will be showing up in drag, performing or just talking about their career as a drag artist but this feels inappropriate to me. Middle schoolers will be there (11-13 years old). Yes, I’m old but am planning to make sure my kid has a dentist appointment that day. I can’t be the only one who thinks this is a little odd, right? And somewhat performative?

I don’t understand why we would have a drag queen presenting to a group of kids. I like drag well enough, but it’s an adult activity historically held/observed in adult environments, around other adults.

I would not be cool with this. Why??

We don’t. OP is trolling. Try to keep up.

Funny.

I never read about these assemblies at assisted care and other other folks' living and gathering places. Why always targeted to schools and kiddie reading hour?

Not all drag is sexual. A friend’s brother does Missy Elliot drag. It’s probably the least sexual dancing imaginable.

My grandmother swore Liberace was straight. You could send a drag queen to perform at most nursing homes and the residents wouldn’t be the wiser.

Would you be mad if it was clowns? or people dressed like the 18th century?

Do you just associate drag = sex?

What is going on in your brain... insight needed.

For me, it feels a bit like minstrel shows. They are men performing a stereotype of a woman. It bothers me as much as it would bother me to see blackface performances. You might not agree or say the two are not equivalent but I think they very much are.

Except it’s not a stereotype of women. I don’t know anyone (except dolly) who dresses that way.

I think the cultural context is hugely and importantly different.

All I see is an oppressor class using physical characteristics of an oppressed class as a form of entertainment.

Sounds like some people enjoy that sort of thing.

Black face is punching down to an oppressed class.

Drag is putting women on a pedestal. Holding them up, showing them as powerful.
