Fed or non-fed job

There are actually a lot of long-term feds at my particular agency; it's not unusual at all. Sounds like you may work someplace different.

What job series?

There still are some parts of the civil service that allow remote work, but only for certain job series.

Yeah, not my job series unfortunately. I explored trying to switch to another agency. Womp womp.

You should stay with your fed job. I left my fed job after 12 yrs to make more money in private sector and I got laid off 2 yrs later. I now make less than I did in my fed job, my wife had to change her job to help make up the difference in salary and our life has been a disaster in the aftermath of my layoff. stay put. Security trumps everything.

I'm sorry that happened to you and your family. It's part of why I'm wary of moving to the private sector. The new role I was offered is a state job though.

Stability in Federal service is gone under Trump and DOGE.

You know the answer.

As a fed who has been in a soul-sucking job for over two decades, I would leave in a heartbeat. It won’t get any better and life is too short. I’m planning my escape hatch but you already have one…take it!
