The CDC reports that “early estimates of 2025–26 influenza vaccine effectiveness in England against influenza-associated hospitalization remained within expected ranges of 70%–75% for children and 30%–40% for adults, suggesting that influenza vaccination remains an effective tool in preventing influenza-related hospitalizations this season.”

So it’s definitely worth it.

It’s always estimates and never raw numbers. One of the vaccine makers favorite tricks.

You don’t find it one bit odd that you can easily find out how many people take the flu shot and how many people die of the flu, but we need to “estimate” how many people who took the flu shot died of the flu?

Uh oh - New York State Department of Health announced that NY is experiencing the highest number of flu cases ever recorded in a single week (since recording started 2004). Hospitalizations due to influenza surged by 63% in one week. !

But I read that although that mtg was canceled, they still were able to use the most recent global data to make this year’s vaccine, which also aligned with the WHO recommendations. Other countries are having a rough flu season as well. I just don’t want anyone to feel discouraged to get the shot.

The flu shot this year is actually quite effective in the pediatric population- as of now they are reporting 70-75% effectiveness in preventing hospitalizations in children and teens.

In the past I have not been good about getting a flu shot. But this year my toddler’s ped offered it to me so I said yes. After watching my DH suffer through this flu for over a week, I will never skip it again, and will always make sure DC gets it as well.

Get the freaking flu shot bc there is zero - and I mean zero - downside to doing so. Is it super effective against this strain of flu? Who knows. It doesn’t matter. The point is the flu is bad, and possibly without the shot I could have had a hospitalized kid.

I think you don't realize how hard it is for a lot of people to get a flu shot. I have Kaiser and can only get a flu shot with an appt at a Kaiser shot clinic. The closest center is 30 min each way from me, making 5 appts in a row for my kids and us is challenging, and the times offered are limited. This year I just gave up on Kaiser and paid $35 a person to get a flu shot at the pharmacy near me, but that's $175 and a lot of money to most people. I wish I could just go to close by places like everyone else is able to.

People without insurance also will have trouble getting a flu shot.
