Picky kids can eat the rolls. This is a good lesson for kids that everything doesn't revolve around them and pizza and nuggets aren't appropriate for every meal.

The lesson you want them to learn is to hate having dinner at this person's house?

It's not hard to please kids. Mac and cheese as a side, done.

Train your kids at home how to eat food offered. Don't make the host do the work for you. Your kids won't die trying new foods. You can do it!

I've got 3 kids all raised exactly the same. One eats everything, one is typical kid picky and one is extremely picky with food allergies. The extremely picky one is a teenager, larger than me and just won't eat and then ask to never go back. OP asked for feedback, I gave it.

I have 3 kids and I don't expect people to cater to their individual desires. I tell my kids to pick a few things and make do. They eventually find new things they actually like.
