RIP Kennedy Center

Having spent years studying Stalinism, this is serious cult of personality crap. Are there also children’s books depicting him as an avuncular father figure?
He really does remind me a LOT of Stalin, but Stalin was a self-made man who actually sort of accomplished something as a young man (not something good, but still) whereas Trump mostly just pissed sway his dad’s money.

Lots of wealthy families, including ones who made their money (or spent it) in morally questionable or even bankrupt ways, have figured out that there is a path towards still being loved by the masses. You just have to build things, yourself, for the masses.

Carnegie built all those libraries. The Kennedy family contributed large sums to build the Kennedy Center and establish its organization, as well as other considerable donations to the arts, environmental causes, among others. The Pritzkers have given enormous sums to universities and the arts. And in so doing, they have gotten their names on all kinds of buildings, with all the trappings of such honors -- ribbon cutting and celebratory awards and lots of people talking loudly about these families' good works.

Trump was born rich, given a big sum of money by his dad, and managed to make a lot of money in his life. Yet he's never chosen to do a single good work with any of it. When you think of the Trumps, what charitable endeavors do you think of? None. I think of golf courses and hotels and, oh yeah, being the dumbest, most vindictive, most destructive President in history.

Trump OWNED an historical building in downtown DC, blocks from the White House. He could have done anything with it, including turning it into a museum or other public work that served the public in ANY way. And if he had, people would have to acknowledge that he had done something positive. Instead he turned it into a hotel where lobbyists and foreign dignitaries and businessmen could bribe him for favorable policies while drinking $20 cocktails in the lobby.

He refuses to actually do any of the good works that generally gets rich and privileged people honored with their names on the sides of buildings. Even just donating a big sum of money to a school or nonprofit would do it. He refuses. But he still thinks he's owed the honor. Because he's the absolute worst possible person.

How did you forget to include that Trump actually founded a charity and STOLE FROM IT???

He’s not just Scrooge, he’s something way beyond that. He’s subhuman.

I actually didn't forget, my husband brought it up when I was ranting about this out loud to him before writing my post. It's just that he's such a horrible human being that you can't capture every horrible, stupid, offensive thing he's done in a 300-400 word post. It would take multiple volumes. And I'm sure one day it will, a multi-volume set called The Fall of the United States of America.

Who cares? The next Dem president can rename it.

It hasn’t been renamed now. Need Congress to actually rename it.

Was just discussing what would make an apt memorial to Trump in the way that the Kennedy Center feels like an apt memorial to JFK (and, really, Jackie) and my suggestion was a giant gold toilet. I can't think of anything that better encapsulates the Trump ethos.

+1, he's doing the equivalent of putting that stupid gold lettering in the West Wing outside all the rooms. This is a deeply obnoxious thing to do but it will also be solved with like an hour of work by one person and some basic tools.

They know he doesn’t have long, people inside his circle are aware of the prognosis.
The minute he dies, it will be restored and trumps name removed.
you’re optimistic in a naive way.

I had been in the camp of I would possibly continue to attend some events to support the artists and remaining staff. I hadn't bought any tickets but hadn't mentally ruled it out.

This is the nail in the coffin though. I'm not going.

I do wonder what will become of it. It's awful. Ticket sales are already in the crapper and this will make it worse.

I am going to a Christmas concert this weekend that we have attended in the past. Now I am regretting it.

I used to love that but did not buy thickets this year because of Trump.

At least the name can be changed again.

What Trump has done desecrating the White House including destruction of the East Wing is more permanent.

And you better believe they will start chiseling his disgusting mug into Mount Rushmore in short order.

He only cares about making money (more than you) and fame (the most famous) and people thinking he is the best (he is the worst).
