If you were to lose your job at age 55+, would you retire/dial back or look for another full-time position?

My DH's future health is uncertain and I like the idea of having benefits for myself.

Sucks that health insurance is tied to employment.


+100 This is the scariest part of losing your job in your 40s. This is when you really start to need the health insurance.

I’m in a different spot. I’m 58 and want out of my current job but scared to leave. Been at my current county government job for 20 years but it is misery. Really toxic place and supervisor is horrible. Been passed over for promotions and Looking to go private. But if that doesn’t work out, I’m screwed. I’m the breadwinner and carry the insurance and we have a kid in high school so retirement isn’t for a few years.
