Metro Bus HORRORS

Terrible c85 today rainy day And the kids have to wait 1 hour for the bus. Terrible service.

Posting here is basically the equivalent of screaming into the void. Look up and contact WMATA leadership (Board member names etc are public on the site) and look at DC councilmembers who oversee transportation. e.g., I think Christina Henderson oversees this committee or plays a liaison to the WMATA board from the DC Council. complaining here might be cathartic but literally does nothing. is there an LSAT or PTO at MacArthur? Is this something families want to organize around? Be a part of that.

OP here, yes, there is a very engaged PTO. The first meeting is on the 20th so I would definitely bring up this concern and spearhead this concern. I will say that my son has gotten adjusted to the buses taking forever so he chill with his friends but now he is just complaining about kids vaping 😂

OP again just wanted to say that, even though I had a smiley face, I am not happy about my son complaining about vape smoke

I have spoken to her before about increasing anti-social issues among students. Her response has always been to increase SEL curriculum.

Because if some is good, a ton must be better, right?

MacArthur is in a terrible location for a school. Difficult to access if you don’t live in the neighborhood. These types of transportation issues are hardly a surprise. Bowser’s people should figure out a better transportation plan for the kids

Wasn't this an implicit goal? Make it an neighborhood school. Relieve IB pressure on JR. Eventually make OOB only want JR (due to it being on a metro line)

Not sure how the plan is going. But my neighbors all have unused cars sitting in the driveways waiting for the kids to turn 16 - they'll all drive to macarthur eventually (zone 3 parking, so easy). Neighbors and younger siblings will be covered that way anyways too. They'll have the C85/D94 bus if someone has practice that runs long. its shocking how much empty street parking is in the neighborhood. Not saying any of this ideal - but this is how it will play out for many IB families at macarthur.

There was no plan. They bought the school to do GDS a favor, and then they came up with a way to use it.
