is this a real need (a scholarship, a program to apply to)? Or a mythical quest to get a 1500? If the former, look at which section he can realistically improve and work on one thing. If the later, let it go.
What does HE want to do? My kid took the sAT and the ACT - was fine with the score.
Please stop at 1490. It's not worth working this hard for one extra percentile (98th vs. 99th).
The 1500 is 98th percentile. |
Please accept your kid's score. It's not like he hasn't tried to bring it up already. His efforts will be better spent boosting the rest of his application.
Try twice should be able to super score to 1500.
TikTok PP - who is the SAT tutor with access to the recently released College Board questions?
Yikes, people on here are wild. My son wants to retake the SAT to try to get from a 1370 to a 1400 and I am not even sure that is worth it.
This board is not "normal"
In defense of PP — in our DMV neighborhood “1500” seems to be some magical, talismanic goal in the high school lore. After taking the SAT twice my kid had a 1490 superscore, which her dad and I thought was great. So she went and signed herself up for a third SAT using her own money, worked out her own prep schedule, and got herself over the line. And that is a relatively sane story. She has a friends who have taken the test 5 and 9 (!) times, respectively, trying to get over 1500. Not because any adult tells them they need a score over 1500, but because in a holistic admissions environment where there are no clear rules or standards, the kids have gone and made one up.
I feel sorry for your son.
People on this board like to think of DCUM parents as pushy and tigerish. But often times it's the kid's environment -- peer group, school culture -- that drives them towards a pursuit of better grade/score/ECs. |
