Most beautiful country you have been to?

Wow, saw that someone posted ZA almost the same time as my PP

Glad to see Slovenia mentioned a couple of times. Slovenia gets my vote, too! I spent over a week there, but want to go back to see more.

I would agree with posters who said:

Portugal
Switzerland
NZ
Norway

I would add Iceland if not yet listed here.

I’ve been to all the places you’ve listed and lived abroad twice.

Nothing holds a candle to the breadth of America’s many beautiful areas. You’ve probably looked down your nose at traveling within this country and glamorized abroad.

+1
I think this happens to folks who don't grow up traveling and get to for the first time in their 20s. Then they jump on a plane (or become Europhiles) and think everything else is better, without seeing the beauty right here at home - so vast, so different from one place to another. Other places have their unique beauty, but lack the diversity breadth and depth we have. We are really lucky this way. And, for the most part, one can see this all safely, because (at least right now) we have a safe a stable government. Let hope the Orange doesn't mess that up - I still like my country red, white, blue, free, and brave.

Agree- I prefer traveling abroad just to get out of here for the culture, food etc but I do think the US has incredible diversity.

Some favorites

Pacific Northwest
Moab Utah
Telluride and Crested Butte Colorado
NYC
Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard
Big Sur, Carmel
Montana
the South, gorgeous trees and bayous

I also ultimately love the US - Alaska, Hawaii, Montana (Glacier, Whitefish, Flathead Lake), California, Utah, Maine, Colorado, Oregon, Washington.

Agreed, think many of these posters haven't seen much more than Europe

I prefer traveling abroad and would vote for it for beauty because I am not a fan of driving really long distances and staying at crappy hotels to commune with our most beautiful locations.

Yes objectively the US probably should win. But unless you have a camper van and don’t mind traveling that way these are all separate trips with LONG drives or else flights in between and many spots are both pricy and not great in terms on lodging options when you are there (as in the national parks out west). In Europe the beauty is much closer by plus nice lodging is more available.

You’re clearly unfamiliar with any of the US places that PP mentioned. 😂

New Zealand is insane. One of the few places I'd head back to a heartbeat.

Loving people saying Switzerland, because I'm going there in a few weeks, and now I'm even more excited.

I went to Iceland a couple of years ago. It's definitely worth seeing, but I am not sure if it's "beautiful". It's striking, to be sure, but in a desolate kind of way. So much of Iceland is untouched, but there are hardly any trees, no grass, just volcanic rocks and moss. There is beauty there, but it's very one dimensional. The topography doesn't really change. Still, worth seeing, especially the ice caves.

Lake Geneva in Switzerland
Maui

I haven’t been to nearly as many places as some people, but those 2 places were so pretty.
