My question is will they accept the $200K from anyone (and would anyone pay the money that it already have the stats or hooks to get in) or are they just filtering for students have a high chance of admission already.

There is a consultant in McLean [Vienna?] that does this. He filters clients with PSAT scores and GPA. He justifies this by saying he isn't trying to get a Northeastern qualified kid into Harvard, he is trying to get a Northeastern qualified kid into Northeastern and the Harvard qualified kid into Harvard. The PSAT score isn't enough for him to tell you where you will get accepted but it is enough to tell him if it's worth paying him to help you. He charges $475/hour and he is not taking new clients at this time.

The whole point of these companies is to prey on rich people's anxiety. They are a total sham. Good on asian parents for not getting sucked into it.

There are 100 Asian versions of this but they advertise in Chinese and don't care about making fancy websites.

+1

I'm a high school teacher in Singapore. There are PLENTY of these services in Asia. And many are extremely unethical.

Totally. My cousin in Asia is terrible at English - he cannot even hold a basic conversation in English - and got into multiple schools in the U.S. because a counselor wrote his essays for him. Yes, you read that correctly.

I know a kid like this at USC. He is taking the easiest possible path to a USC degree and will go back with a shiny degree that will justify his dad leapfrogging him over other much more qualified employees.
