Met Gala 2025

Photographs can't actually go microscopic on the fabric, nor do they want to, because that's not what sells, obviously. The photos that sell of whole body shots with immense trains, fans, head-dresses, and color contrasts. Even if all those things end up being butt-ugly and not appropriate to the theme.

So do you want to stand out on social media, or do you want to actually have a great suit? It's hard to do both.

I disagree that suiting is ALL in the details. Yes the details are essential and important. But it's also about cutting a very specific figure. I think people could have done a lot more with that. I want to see way more suits! I like that Zendaya's is at least a suit, and it was clearly tailored very specifically for her shape and height, and the look is very impeccably composed with the hat and the shape of the pants, all of it working together to create a very specific and striking silhouette.

I expected way more of that, and in more colors than black and white. Why did everyone go with black and white?

There are some kind of corny jacket dresses like Simone Biles and Sabrina Carpenter (okay Sabrina's is not a dress but she's not wearing pants). At least they went for color but the execution is pretty uninspiring.

I wanted to see a bunch of people in gorgeous suits, gorgeous suiting fabrics in exciting colors and patterns, lots of emphasis on details like lapels, shoulders (there has been some that but it's mostly spangled epaulets -- there were other options). I wanted to see suits with skirts and dresses inspired by 1940s and 50s designs, I wanted to see more 70s and 80s area suit inspiration.

This was such a fun theme and I feel like most people blew it. And by people I mean the designers, since they are generally the ones who decide what to do, not the celeb. But also based on Anna Wintour's outfit, she didn't get the theme at all and I know she has a lot of say in who wears what and which designers dress which celebs so maybe that's the problem.

PP you replied to. Well, I mostly agree with you, except that suiting doesn't necessarily mean pants, or gentleman's wear. I was waiting for a Victorian era dress and bustle with sharp suiting details, for example. I LOVE Zendaya's silhouette - her slenderness is a wonderful model for suits! - but yes, more color would have been nice. Basically very few people understood the assignment, and Wintour, who very much did (she's a walking encyclopedia of centuries of fashion), just couldn't be bothered.

Agreed, and I think it's all about having been so sexualized her whole career. Her gown looks like a suit of armor. I think it's great that she is making a statement, but I hate her hair and her dress. I don't see any cohesive message here. Suit of armor . . . except for her top which looks pretty well accentuated. Cropped bangs like she's a child or 20-something. A miss for me.

Love Kerry Washington's look, though seems more like summer tea party than Met Gala.

I like the outfit. Don't like the too long, stringy braid.
