DP. If I do not work during my half-hour for lunch, then I miss child pickup after school.

Then get up early.

I can’t figure it out and I only work 1 day a week. I’m so sleep deprived as I have a 4 month old. It was so much easier in my 20s with only 1 cub kid.

I have a rowing machine in my basement.

Same. I need to knock it out early before the events of the day take over. And that way, there you don't have to build in time for a second shower. Good luck, you can do it!

Give yourself a break! When my kids were 4 months old any exercise was a win because I wasn't getting SLEEP or frankly very much time between breastfeeds.

I also have a four month old (and two other kids). Taking a walk with the 4 month old now that it’s getting nice out and she’s awake longer is a good way to get steps in.

There was someone at my work with kids who was super fit and into working out, so I asked him this question hoping for useful tips.

He gets up at 3:45am (!!) everyday to work out.

Fat and happy it is for me then.

Haven’t read the whole thread but for me, it’s having only 1 kid and DH really steps up to help with lots of stuff around the house.

I hear you.

I work in office 3 days a week. Spouse works from home entirely.
On office days I work out first thing in the AM and take the kids to school. I have an exercise bike, rowing machine and weights for all variety of workouts. Spouse makes sure the kids are breakfasted and ready. The two days I work from home, we switch and I work out as soon as they leave. On weekends I might go on a hike or bike ride instead of working out.

Even when I get a break (maybe 3-4 hours a week) I collapse in front of the TV or with a book.

I went to 5:45am Pilates class for years but once the advent of the Peloton happened and I didn’t even have to leave the house in the dark cold to drive somewhere, but instead walk 5 steps in my bedroom, that was huge. 6a spin or I go for a run. Then shower, then wake the kid.

If I don’t work out in the early morning then it won’t happen. After work or nighttime is impossible. Once you discipline yourself to just get up and do it, you won’t think about how early it is.

These “parking lot parents” are the worst! They fail to watch their kids practice and just sit in their cars scrolling in their cars or SUVs. Alone.

Get off your damn phone and use the kids’ practice time to MOVE.

If they are not complaining to you about lack of time, why do you care?

How do you have time to workout, shower and eat in an hour?

Change/Workout for 40 minutes. Shower/Change for 15 minutes. Walk to and from your office - 5 minutes. Eat the lunch you packed at your desk before or after workout (depending on the type of workout of course).

I am the one who asked your kids ages and your job logistics. Not sure I saw your answer. How/when you workout varies based on these things.

NP here. I wish I had an hour lunch, but you can't change and do meaningful sweaty exercise in a 30 minute break. Maybe a 20 minute walk.

I have been getting away with lunch break workouts during WFH, since I can jump back online all sweaty and shower later, but 5-day RTO is in June and I'm just going to have to lose time with my kids in the early mornings or evenings to work out. In addition to the hour of commuting. Sigh.

Not be as a**, but this is the attitude that keeps you from being fit. Since I can’t do what’s perfect, I will do nothing.

Well you have to be sensible. A gym workout in just 30 minutes (including changing and showering) is not realistic at all. It’s not a plan. And yeah, it does suck to have to choose between basic fitness and spending time with your kids. Denying the tradeoff doesn’t help.

Did you see the poster above who fit in a 25 minute gym workout? What’s wrong with 20 minute very fast treadmill or 20 minute lift on one body part?

Not my body, not my life, so I don’t care. I’m just posting back because I wouldn’t want OP to succumb to this kind of thinking.

OP is in the office and has 30 minutes for lunch. Unless she is going to workout in her work clothes and not shower, there’s no way to fit in a 20 minute workout.

Read up in this chain. A poster asked how to spend 1 hour at lunch.

No, it was a response to a PP who said she only had 30 minutes at lunch.
