How would you do differently if DC is only interested in SLACs?

My kid applied to both our big state flagship and SLAC’s and a couple mid-size schools. They visited the flagship, the mid-sized U and the SLAC after being admitted to all three, and decided that they preferred the smaller environment. They went into it with the understanding that by choosing the smaller environment, they were not going to have access to the things that their friends at large state flagships have (football tailgates, specialized majors, name recognition, etc).
