need to decide GDS or Maret for 9th

We felt this way and it’s turned out to be a non-issue. I admit our other DC at a Big 3 would have hated not having lunch - my GDS student is more flexible on food (leftovers are fine & work great). But even my non-gds needed to eat out once a week because the food served in cafeteria was not always friendly to some dietary restrictions.

I can't imagine lunch making or breaking a school choice for anyone. Just pack a sandwich!

OP, do let us know which you chose!

It’s not an issue at all. My kid prefers to bring lunch almost every day.

IF you are asking this questions, you are NOT ready for either of them.

GDS homework is a couple of hours on average.

Weird take. These are reasonable questions. People ask these same questions about many different schools all the time on this board.

Are you saying the Maret faculty want the new Maret HOS to leave?

Seems to be exactly what they are saying?

Is that true? From posts on other threads, it sounded like he was a good HOS and that he connected with students and that he is being maligned because of the Whittle fiasco -- but that his Maret tenure is thus far OK. It seems that Maret is going through some growing pains as it transitions away from the previous head who had been synonymous with the school's culture.

yes, its true and it has nothing to do with his previous school or growing pains. he isn't transparent, he isn't honest, and he's incompetent. he just hired his friend from gds as the new associate hos without telling the faculty, opening a search, or interviewing. as a teacher at maret, it was a slap to the face.

Yes. I heard from people at GDS about this and he still has not told us. As a faculty, we have been nickled and dimed with the message about sustainability and transparency. And yet he finds the budget for a secret hire. The man has three Assistant Heads and he needed to hire another person????? Maret faculty are irate and are not sure what value he has added. The nice guy routine wore out mid-way last year and yet he is not clear in communication and also at times not transparent. Horrible and thankful for amazing colleagues.

What if this hire replaces someone who is leaving? They worked together before and he feels comfortable with her. Doesn’t seem like a scandal but, yes, it should have been communicated better.

No one is leaving. This is a friend hired without any process, never meeting anyone in the community.

GDS faculty are also not phased about this major position leaving. Not a great sign for Maret.
