Colgate will get in RD - don’t waste the ED.

TBH, if you are from "Known private/feeder in NYC", these schools are targets/safeties. Don't waste your ED on these schools. For 3.8 from a known nyc private, the ED schools are the ivy league schools. DC folks have no idea what 3.8 means in nyc privates.

Ummm. Do you know private schools? The kids that go to Colgate from ours are 3.7 or so at best. HC is much lower.

For RD or ED?

Is OP's kid from a NYC private or Gonzaga?

This. Agree.
My non-DC private feeder HS 3.8uw is at T15 in RD.

These are questions for your CCO, examining your school’s data, and talking to current senior parents at your school.

hoping for WASP, Midd, Dartmouth, Bowdoin

Our Naviance is not very telling, except for Dartmouth. They seem to really lean on GPA so that's out.

I can discount obvious outliers (mostly athletes), but does anyone know which of the above SLACs will care more about great LOR and compelling essays over ECs? He has really strong in-school ECs but not much out of school. But school leadership, for sure.

What is WASP?

OP: NYC private.

Someone was asking, I think, about a similar kid from Gonzaga

A 3.8 from Gonzaga (which I understand is not the OP’s NYC kid) will not be getting into Dartmouth. The median GPA at Gonzaga is 3.8. The boys that go to Dartmouth from Gonzaga have really high GPAs and usually another hook (often a recruit).

Worcester is terrible. It's Mogadishu compared to Middlebury, VT.

??. It’s a very good college city with great restaurants. If you got beaten up there or something, maybe that has more to do with your personality.

3.8 from top NYC private should try for Hamilton, easier admit Cornell, or a less popular for East coasters but highly ranked like grinell.
