hey are doing quick in-and-out trips, terrorizing federal employees and energizing spectators. Are these window-dressing? For Trump and the base? What is the point of any of this?

No, that's not what they're doing.

They're feeding each department's financial data into AI software to analyze so they can make cuts of things Trump/Elon/Russ Vought don't like.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/02/06/elon-musk-doge-ai-department-education/

They also are running everyone's personnel file through AI. And they've downloaded software on government computers to search employee chats for certain keywords.

Sounds like a new version DEI - employee retention based on perceived political orientation

Yes, exactly. Seriously inexperienced, unqualified and unvetted people barely in their 20s are being put in charge of major national systems and trillion dollar budgets, with the only merit being their political orientation. That's clear discrimination against much more experienced and qualified people.

When I was barely in my 20s I was administering and titrating high risk, lifesaving drugs, caring for critically ill children on ECMO and CRRT, and responding to pediatric traumas. Just because you are young does not make you stupid or incompetent.

We have a real Doogie Howser here.

Sorry Old-Timer, I think Doogie was a doctor. I'm proud to be a nurse.

So you weren’t smart enough to go to med school.

I hope insulting nurses made you feel better about yourself You are a sad, sorry person and I will pray for you.

DP. I think nurses are a godsend in a patient care setting but some (not all) hold some straight up batsh*t views about health and medicine, which belies their lack of education and skills in critically analyzing research as compared to people with MDs and/or advanced degrees in biomedical sciences.

Not sure has DOGE at the NIH thread ended up bashing nurses.

I heard about this from a friend who is very involved in rare disease advocacy. She has two kids with very fragile health from familial chronic pancreatitis. It killed their father before they knew the kids would be affected. Both kids (17 and 24) have had TPAIT procedures--pancreas removed and islet cells transplanted into liver, both have very very hard to manage diabetes and are often hospitalized. Local news featured a guy with a form of muscular dystrophy and his mom, who are also very involved in advocacy, and talking about people in research trials being delayed or the trials even being disrupted which affects validity of research results.

I also learned that 1 out of 10 Americans has a rare disease, which I had no idea is the case.

There are some batshit crazy doctors and researchers as well. And surgeons and anesthesiology folks tend to vote for Trump because they make a lot of money.

As for the nurse who was caring for critically ill children, one thing she was NOT doing was writing the orders.

They are downloading all the available databases, such as employee records, contracts, trainings, etc, and uploading them to Microsoft Azure to be read into an AI model. Then they ask the AI model questions like, “tell me which employees were involved in DEI work,” or, “which departments and contacts have too many workers for the expected projects,” or, “how can I reorganize office locations so workers will need to travel the farthest from home without changing duty stations more than 50 miles.”

I never knew this before but apparently IBM punchcards were used by Nazi Germany to gather demographic data to keep track of and identify undesirables.

Classic authoritarian attack on scientists

As of 45 min ago on the NYTimes live news feed, Trump to restrict billions of federal dollars that had funded medical research at universities. These funds had supported research into curing disease, research into food safety like keeping E. coli out of crops like spinach and lettuce, etc. All of that will end.

Make Cancer Great Again

Ha, I thought MCGA was Make China Great Again (who will fill the gaping hole in world leadership now that we are stepping out of everything in the name of efficiency and short term savings)?

You mean the garbage that has made this country the sickest in the entire world?

You realize that the European countries with healthier populations have a lot more food inspection and rules that are being enforced?

EU laws simply don’t allow the poisons that US government allows.

Trump already announced that they’re looking at the military next.

Are people really ignorant enough to think that’s the whole of NIH? NIAID isn’t even the biggest institute

Trump says a lot of things but he is not in charge. Have you watched his signing of the EOs? He does not even know what he is signing.

Seems like the cuts at other agencies came at a quick pace, but it's been nothing but silence regarding DOD, which should have more low hanging fruit than all the other agencies combined.

DOGE apparently got to Pentagon last week. Lack of reporting suggests that they either weren't allowed to see anything at all, or that everyone just shut their yap. I personally can't wait for Elon to tweet out some Pentagon secrets and see how that goes.

Can't imagine why people would be against looking into how the money is being spent and where it's going. It's not even partisan, or won't wind up being, because I have little doubt there will be numerous Republicans tied into the grift and corruption also.

You left wingers are so short sighted and petty that you would rather all the waste and corruption continue just so no one you consider "your side" looks bad. Childish and immature, which is why you lefties should never be trusted with any sort of responsibility
