Why aren’t plentiful apps/heavy hors d'oeuvres ‘filling’?

NP. I'm so sorry. I find it perfectly clear.

Ooh la la!

If you are upset that you aren’t getting enough “lean protein and veggies” and/or that you have to eat things wrapped in puff pastry - for one meal at a party, not every day - you have an eating disorder.

Actually that is false. Those who do consume such food stuffs as "pigs in a blanket" (belch) have the actual disordered eating. You, sadly, do not know what real food is. If you did, you would realize that puff pastry made with whole grain sifted flour and butter churned from milk from organic, grass fed cows, is fine in moderation.

I really hope you aren’t raising children with views like “those who consume pigs in a blanket have disordered eating.” There is no much privilege and ignorance reeking from that statement that it is a lot more “blech” than the appetizer you hate. Some people can’t afford and have access to milk from “organic, grass fed cows” and you’re labelling them disordered for eating what is accessible to them. Some people eat them occasionally by choice and at parties, and GASP, they don’t have eating disorders either.

Please read some current work by actually RDs, your kind of willful ignorance isn’t a good look.

Striver mindset. Constantly clocking what things cost, obsessing over the status of random trivial things, and wanting to eke out every last dollar. It’s honestly a mental illness.

Sometimes I get grossed out by a table full of dips full of sour cream and cream cheese, cheese, cold meatballs, etc. I’m not a fan of app only parties but I’ll still make it my meal. Would much rather sit and have a regular warm dinner and salad.

Two reasons:

1. People don't like the idea and WANT a meal, or they don't like the food, and they don't eat as much.

2. Lots of parties with appetizers have limited appetizers, so either there isn't enough to fill up twice or if they're passed they're hard to even find.

They are to me. Many people eat too much and seem to have difficulty tracking what they consume if it's not all consumed at once sitting.

I hosted a NYE happy hour with heavy apps. People (myself included )ended up drinking too much and the random apps everyone brought weren’t that good and got cold quickly.
Next year I will have a lasagna in the oven that I will pull out and slice up so everyone has a quick warm meal….

I have to remind myself to make a plate, filled with fresh vegetables and fruit.

Otherwise I can scarf a lot of individual pieces of cheese, appetizers, etc for more calories than a dinner.

I don’t ever “scarf” my food, whether it is charcuterie and crudite or a steak dinner, but you do you.

This must have sounded so much cooler when it was in your head.

I think properly done, heavy apps are enough, but many people don’t plan for the whole night and enough variety to make this realistic. Throwing out a few sausage rolls and spanakopita at the beginning of the night does not a full / satiated guest or god heavy app party make. Warm Apps should be served throughout the night, and there should also
Always be some available that guests can pick up themselves, like meatballs in a crock pot or chafing dish, cheese fondue in similar fashion, pizza or Tarte flambée, along with crudite and charcuterie.

I prefer them and when alone I only eat things like a little charcuterie and cheese, grapes…it is filling. I think people are conditioned to want “a meal”
