This makes me so angry.
I know docs are conservative and risk-averse but the fact that people don't even want to approach their PC docs means that these docs are unreasonable. Not to make this about me but I'm having statin pressure and I'm sick of it.

I would love for your doc OP to be inviting you to look at some different options! They should be working with you and helping you. Because guess what, nobody wants to go in, get shamed, get same old lecture on diet and exercise and then meds from 20 years ago.

(and a bonus print out on the Mediterranean diet - and I weigh 125. Can you imagine.)

I’m sorry this makes you angry. As a different poster who has struggled with my weight, I am guessing that OP has been shamed and lectured by primary care in the past.

Yes that's the point. And in the intervening pages, we have seen that not only is this common, but doctors are also wrong. They should be helping their patients get this medication safely. We are in an obesity/diabetic crisis right now.

Should I ask my PC to prescribe compound GLP-1 from a reputable or compound pharmacy or should I just go to one of the zillion sites online and do it that way? I don’t think I’ll be able to afford Wegovy or Zepbound bc neither is covered fully by my insurance and even with the coupon it’s expensive. The compound versions are so much cheaper—so what’s the rub? Is it that you’re more likely to experience complications from compound than the pharma brand? Are these online places not reputable at all? Can anyone speak to their experience with compound from the big names-Hers, IVIM, Henrys? A year ago compound seemed taboo and now everyone seems to be buying it directly.

My pcp says her concerns about safety are so grave that she won't prescribe to compounding pharmacies. She literally wouldn't be able to sleep if she did.

Your PCP is an idiot. If they had any common sense, they would find one of the many reputable and vetted 501 B pharmacies and prescribe to you and her other patients from there. This medication is a lifesaver and compounding pharmacies are a time honored and amazing American tradition that bridges the gap for customized medicine that people need. Again, she’s an idiot and you need a new one. I literally can’t sleep right now knowing there is a doctor this stupid in the world treating patients who are stupid enough to believe her.

You are an idiot.

Compounded medication is not regulated by the FDA and not tested for safety. You can get far more of the active ingredient than you should, or virtually none of it. My doctor has had patients sick enough to end up in the hospital due to mistakes made by compounding pharmacies. And compounded semaglutide contains a salt form of semaglutide that has not been researched at all -- for safety or efficacy. The FDA has received many reports of compounded semaglutide containing toxins.

More ignorant trash and lies motivated by your fear and paranoia. Your pcp is feeding you lies to keep you fat and sick and you lap it up! Enjoy being ill.

People are keeping themselves fat and ill. They are managing to do that by eating piles of trash and not moving.

Why the violent reaction to any criticism? The FDA has received adverse event notifications. They always do about virtually everything. There is no sense in not being careful.

Enjoy lapping up a lifetime of biochemistry altering medication because you failed at self control.

It’s the same angry, fat on the outside/inside poster that lurks on this forum, and throws lewd insults.

Exactly. There’s absolutely nothing worse than letting people stay obese and the horrific effects of obesity are confirmed and devastating and end in death in many cases. Not to mention, many of us are already hooked on a lifetime therapy of statins, blood pressure, medication, and tons of other medication’s just to help us survive. These can all be alleviated with GLP one agonists if people would just look past their own fear And find success stories like mine and many many others. I am on a very low dose, I have almost no side effects, have lost all of my excess weight, and am exercising and eating exactly the way I should be and I think it has changed my life. What’s not to like about that? Thankful!!!

I went with WW clinic after repeatedly getting blown off by my primary care practice for not being fat enough, even though I have increasingly debilitating osteoarthritis. Once the Rx was approved via WW, I reached out to my primary care practice to ensure no medical objections. Ironically, they were supportive and agreed to coordinate care, as if I’d never asked them first.

I've been with WW Clinic for 10 months and have lost 50 lbs. I can't say enough good things about it... SO worth the monthly membership fee.

I've been 20ish lbs overweight for 25 years.... I have done WW and Noom many times and it takes being very-very hungry almost all the time to move the scale gauge a few pounds...I am a healthy eater and am fit. I signed up on Emerge last night(easy) and am hopeful that it is effective for me-
