Thank you. Can you please elaborate on what you believe would be "sacrifice and risk" with CNU versus GMU? |
Well, yeah, my kid was in those dorms. That's UVA post WWII dorms which have been torn down. This thread is about GMU dorms |
To the contrary. The PP said her kid was adamant in NOT registering with GMU disability services. I had five years of dealing with them and think they should but it would be a long post so if the PP doesn't want to hear an opinion to the contrary, I wasn't going to spend the time writing out why they should apply. |
I'm the poster who asked the question above. I'd be very grateful if you posted about your experiences. We're cautiously optimistic about DS starting in the Fall. He has an excellent knowledge base. However, since he's on the spectrum, it's not a stretch to say he's going to need to rely on accommodations such as extended time and note takers -- and frankly just others understanding that he says and does things slightly "off" because of his ASD. |
+1 OP here, and agreed. Would wlecome any specific experiences with GMU disability services. |
DP: GMU has solid disability services and some specialized programs if you need more (autism support, executive functioning support). The university has long had a highly-regarded Special Education department and I think that strength has informed how they run their disability services. |
OP here. Really appreciate the historical/organizational insight and perspective on the foundation of GMU's disability support services. |
Sure. Will post later in the day. It will take some time to compose. Both of my kids used disability services at GMU and UVA |
Excellent. Look forward to your post. |
It’s good to have spirit but CNU is at least a tier below GMU |
The SCHEV data doesn't indicate that CNU has the highest SAT scores in Virginia outside of UVA, VT, W&L, and W&M (W&L is of course private). At the 75th percentile SAT for publics it looks like this (https://research.schev.edu//enrollment/B10_FreshmenProfile.asp): UVA / W&M VT VMI GMU JMU / UMW CNU ODU VCU LU UVA-Wise RU NSU VSU VMI through VCU are in a relatively close SAT range and those schools offer a number of options (size, location, environment) |
uh, no. Even GMU is way ahead of CNU in terms of SAT scores. SCHEV reports last year's incoming CNU class at 1240 at the 75th percentile, 1190 at median and 1120 at the bottom 25th percentile. GMU's was 1330/1240/1160. https://research.schev.edu//enrollment/B10_FreshmenProfile.asp |
There was a "doesn't" in the sentence you highlighted. |
That person is responding to the PP's claim (scroll up): "Outside of UVA, VT, W&L and W&M, I believe CNU has the highest SAT range of the Virginia publics" |
Good point. However, when looking at SCHEV's GPA data, GMU and CNU are pretty much neck-and-neck: 75th/median/25th CNU: 4.12/3.79/3.44 GMU: 4.0/3.75/3.45 I'm not one who believes in stats of the incoming class as the arbiter of school quality, but for arguments sake, if going by just stats, I'm not sure how one makes the argument that CNU is "at least a tier below GMU." |
