Would you change your own major if you could go back?

you must be at the wrong company. We are trying to hire as many women as possible at my company, in fact my promotion was boosted for how many urm I had hired.

It wasn't really any different then. Why do you think there are so many lawyers?

Yep. Majored in business undergrad and got an MBA. All a waste of time.

Undergrad in Poly Science and MBA in business, finance. While I always tell my kids that my undergrad degree was useless, it has worked out for me. I’m glad I graduated in an era where having a college degree was enough to get into the door with a good company. It’s in my 50s

Yes - I majored in history and I wish I had majored in something like library science. While I ended up going to law school and practicing law, I absolutely hated this line work (and didn't enjoy law school either). At the time, I didn't have a lot of direction and I only went to law school because I didn't know what else I wanted to do.

Judging by some of the atrocious writing skills of colleagues and job candidates I’ve come across, I’d say we need more English majors in the workforce, not fewer.

Imagine a world without music, movies, plays, books, museums, tv shows, fashion, and especially teachers. That’s the world you imagine because you think everyone should be a techno drone looking to earn big bucks. What a disaster.

And once you have no teachers who is going to teach your kids STEM or any other subject?

As a parent, I will lety kid choose their major without trying to backseat drive. You get one shot at college, study what you want.

It's one thing to do that when college was cheap decades ago, but now college costs an insane amount of money, "study what you want" is frankly stupid.

But so is forcing your kid into a major they don't want-- they won't ever get the value out of it because they won't work hard at a career in a field they hate.

It has to be balanced. They can choose their major but need to have a reasonable plan for employment/career.

Exactly, balace is important.

"Study what you want" is not balanced.

Well you sort of prove her point. We don't want to work for you, you are a terrible manager, you are misogynistic and can't even see it.

You can't get us to work for you because of you.

Went to engineering school undergrad. Double majored in CS and Applied Math. Would probably just go Arts&Sciences and study pure math with a minor in CS.Think it would've severed me as well professionally or better.

It still is, you just have to look at the right places. My kid is at a great company and the only requirement for the job is to have a BA/BS, then the company trains you.

No. I live vicariously through my children.
