Is WashU declining?

The question is: Can we decent people unite to mass report threads like this and get the UChicago-bashing threads locked? Once the threads get too nasty, they're useless even for getting actual dirt on the schools.

I don’t see this as a sign that WashU is declining at all.

But I see ED differently than RD. The applicants are inherently different.

Being in Missouri is what it is. That’s a lot of plane tickets, too.

Then don't read them! Geez, so many snowflakes!

The topic is fine. The information-free trolling is not fine.

And the same is true of the repetitive, mindless bashing of the other bashed schools. It’s a form of bullying. The college bullies aren’t providing useful information about what’s wrong with the schools; they’re just bullying the schools and their alumni.

Your son and daughter would probably find a more welcoming environment for the LGBTQ in St Louis than in the rural areas of many "blue" states, and learn something about the complexity of America in the process. But one can't expect them to know better because it seems they were raised by smug simpleton parents.

You're not figuring in the bigger issue: it doesn't matter how welcoming St. Louis is if encompassing state law means a lack of access to emergency medical treatment.

Illinois and abortion clinics are on the East side of town.

St. Louis itself is deep blue, and Missouri has traditionally been a purple state. Students who really care about freedom should be going to school in places like Missouri and voting.

You can say what you wish but in a forum like this, it is expected that comments are respectful, helpful and thoughtful without the crazed unhinged, irrational comments by those hiding behind anonymity

Respectfully, if you threw Harvard into the middle of the world’s meth capital, it wouldn’t turn out as good as WashU.

“‘I’m terrified.’ Missouri lawmakers file onslaught of anti-LGBTQ bills for 2024 session

Missouri Republican lawmakers have pre-filed more than 20 bills aimed at restricting LGBTQ rights ahead of the 2024 legislative session, which begins next month.”

^ Even if STL is blue, the Republican state legislators have a lot of power to hurt LGBTQ people and women.

Republicans block attempt to add rape, incest exemptions to Missouri’s abortion ban

As amendments aimed at legalizing abortion in cases of rape or incest were voted down, one Republican state senator defended the decision saying, ‘God does not make mistakes’

Will they also make it illegal to leave the state for abortions, as some other states are attempting?

Why live in a place that treats women like trash?

WashU--along with Duke, Tulane, Brandeis and the Florida schools--has one of the least hostile environments for Jewish students.

So, the answer is to surrender, flee from Missouri and let the electorate tilt more to the right?

Maybe you’re actually working for the Missouri Republican Party, and you’re trying to keep Democrats from studying in and voting in Missouri?
