Sounds like older kid is too scheduled. An activity twice a week at 6pm after being out of the house all day is kinda crazy. That's a no go for me. The child has no down time. I do not schedule activities after dinner. The latest I'll do a weekly scheduled activity is 4:30. Is the pk student getting enough sleep?
I think of you want to do all those things you need to figure out how to pick kids up from aftercare earlier. |

The baking, art, shows is weekend stuff. I do shoot hoops with my kids while waiting for dinner to finish occasionally.
Homework can be done in the morning, my kids are more receptive to it when they are fresh vs after a long school day. Otherwise we are very booked as well and I like it that way. When practices are cancelled my boys are bouncing off the walls! |

We have kids 4, 9, 12. We stagger schedules. Husband works from home 6am-2 and gets up with 12 yo (her bus comes at 6:30); I get younger two to daycare and school, work 8-4:30; pick up 4 yo; get home by 5. Eat at 5:30.
4 yo goes to bed at 6:30 (7 on swim nights) 9, 12 yos go to bed around 8:30 (they can then hang in their rooms until 9:30, but dh and I go off the clock.) Mon- I use fmla to take 4 yo to speech therapy. Home by 4:30. Tues- 12 yo has math club after school (done at 3:45); 9 yo has bball practice 5:30-6:30, 4 yo has swim lessons 5:30-6:30. Weds- just dropped 9 yo’s gymnastics - we were too busy and it was a schlep. Thurs- 12 yo has choir after school until 4pm; piano teacher comes to home and gives lessons to older two while 4 yo has swimming. Fri- 9 yo has bball games (in spring and fall it is soccer, and the games are on Saturday mornings) 9 yo has occasional after school clubs (1-3x a month) but those are 5 minutes away, and we just have to worry about pick up Our elem does not give hw outside of reading. |
| I’ve read OP’s post three times and at first thought it was sarcasm with two parents working at home and being stressed with that schedule. I get everyone’s lives are different but take a deep breath and enjoy what you have. |
