Being Dead Is No Excuse: The Official Southern Ladies Guide To Hosting the Perfect Funeral
(light, entertaining, gag gift material) Hello Beautiful (underwhelmed after all the hype) The Sisterhood: The Secret Story of Women at the CIA (A reminder of misogyny in the workplace from my generation that was so prevalent and widely accepted.) |

Finished Ripe—found it compelling but not enjoyable?
Reading Saint X now. And I thought I wouldn’t like it (murder of a teen on a resort island in the first chapter, and her sister’s life as a grown up), but the writing is really wonderful. It’s just very well done. Hope to continue enjoying it. |
I stopped reading mid-point as I needed something less like present day life (climate change, raising teenge girls) and it had to go back to the library. I got the point where the girls are starting to go off the deep end. I hope to pick it up again. |
| Just finished Britney’s The Woman in Me. |
| Ready or Not by Cara Bastone in one day. It's such a quick and enjoyable read. The main character is a single girl in her early 30s who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant after a one night stand. She chooses to carry the pregnancy to term, and the book is about her coming to terms with the situation and pregnancy. But it's definitely not a pro-life/pro-choice debate book. Parts of the book have super steamy sex scenes. |
| *I just finished, "Ready or Not" by Cara Bastone. I read it in one day... |
| When i try to order Birnam Wood on amazon, it says it doesn’t come out until March? |
| I just finished Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane. I really enjoyed it, but like many of his other books it is not for faint of heart. It is set in South Boston (where else) in 1974, during the desegregation of Boston’s public schools, and is a thriller focusing on the disappearance of a young white woman and the death of a young black man which occurred on the same night, set in that historical backdrop. |
So far I’ve finished Divine rivals. I gave it a 3.5, rounded to 4. My sister liked Divine Rivals better than Fourth Wing but I liked Fourth Wing better. I wouldn’t consider myself super into fantasy but I’m laughing that now I’m apparently an expert on wyverns. |
I just finished it too and really liked it. It was my first Dennis Lehane book. I’ve seen the movies. What would you recommend next? |
| Barbra - Barbra Streisand autobiography. Terrific but/and super long and detailed. Book is written in almost conversational style, which makes it quite readable despite size. |

I re-read House of Sky and Breath, in preparation for House of Flame and Shadow, which I just finished tonight.
It was a bit of a let down. By this point, if you've read one, you've read them all. |
My favorite was Mystic River, probably then Shutter Island. |

Many Lives of Mama Love-hooked from the first chapter, "my real addiction was escape...always wanting to be someone else, always wanting to be somewhere else", story about a MC mom with childhood trauma who gets hooked on Vicodins' and then black tar heroin. Her addiction eventually leads to stealing her fellow PTA mom's credit cards and lands her in jail.

| I just finished listening to Pineapple Street. I thought it was pretty good. |
