That’s the point. There is a whole thread on Yale and the dangers of New Haven. Penn is in an awful, crime ridden part of Philly. Doesn’t keep students from those schools.

Penn is actually not in an awful, crime ridden part of Philly. Strange when people post that don't actually know the area.

It is in a city and all city schools have their share of crime issues. I actually thought the GT campus was pretty nice and kids I know there don't feel particularly unsafe.

This. I currently live in Georgia (military) and we have pretty much prohibited our kids from going to school here. It's very insular, and most people believe the world stops at the state line. UGA is a great school, but socially, I would not want my kids there. Like someone else pointed out in an older thread, it's a great school if you're going to go straight back to Milledgeville and work at Daddy's insurance agency.

You sound insufferable.

I don't see you living here.. because you know I'm right!

I feel sorry for her family.

I feel sorry for her kids because they are living in state that their parent has contempt for. That is not a great way to grow up.
I'm thankful she took the time to post. You others piling on are just nasty without being enlightening.

She offered a (one) perspective of someone obviously OOS and at least somewhat worldly living in Georgia.

But you go right ahead trying to shout down perspectives you don't like.

NP who has lived in several different Georgia cities, and I completely disagree with you. I'm sure there are some people in the state who believe "the world stops at the state line," but "most people" is a gross exaggeration. Do you mind sharing where you live?

Athens has chain restaurants and a whole bunch of bars that cater to students. Whereas College Park... doesn't have that?
Doesn’t Athens have a nice downtown with non chain restaurants and stores that is adjacent to the campus?
yes

+1 Athens also has a great music and arts scene. There are some chain restaurants, but most are not.

I know several smart kids from the DMV and the Philly area who are currently at UGA.

If you believe that, go to Penn's campus late at night and start walking west. You won't make it 10 blocks before you need a roll of paper towels to wipe the crap out of your pants!
