+1. UCLA is now 76K OOS. UVA is 37K. Families don't go OOS unless they have to. you are trolling |
Yes, and this is why you have to take the posters who claim that their perfect child did not get into UVA with a grain of salt. Dig a little deeper and there’s always a major deficiency in their applications. |
+1. VA has some of the better state schools around. What the OP wants, I suspect is more schools at the UVA/W&M/VaTech "ranking". They could not imagine sending their kid to GMU, JMU, VCU, ODU, Radford, Mary Washington, etc. MD has UMD and then it drops to UMBC (266) and then Towson (459) UVA is 55 and VaTEch is 106 (These are college simply rankings, so you merge all LA, SLAC, regional universities into one ranking). JMU is 258, GMU is 244, VCU 455. It's a no brainer---VA has much better options for in state than MD. |
PP, I warned him in 10th grade when he was registering for classes this would likely be an issue. Theres no digging. I offered the information and fully anticipated all you Karens would start piling on. |
Families don't go OOS unless they can. Fixed that for you. Troll. |
“major deficiency” lol! |
UVA is very clear about the curriculum that you should take. They like to see rigor across all core subjects and not having any AP English when most applicants take both AP lang and AP lit is a mistake. |
I want to request that this post goes directly to the DCUM HOF posts! Her post of "Leave the elite to the elite" is awesome. WOW! |
At 78K a year? no way. DCs didn't appl anywhere OOS. All in-state. Thank heavens. |
Virginia parent here, who is just starting to learn about it all. This thread gives me hope, thank you!!! |
If you cannot get in, that’s not an option. UVa, W&M and VT are not options for many many Virginia kids. Being better than MD doesn’t mean much. |
Yes, we got it Dr. Demento. |
I don't think you are aware that Berkeley is now $78,732 a year for OOS. Berkeley doesn't even break it down anymore - they simply state there is a surcharge of $32,574 for OOS on top of the in-=state of $46,168. https://financialaid.berkeley.edu/how-aid-works/student-budgets-cost-of-attendance/. For that reason we didn't apply anywhere OOS. I actually don't know anyone who applied OOS. Everyone finds a home in the 30 odd public schools in Virginia. UVA is $37K. Our DDD went to GMU. It was slightly more. |
Most states have a flagship and a land grant. In VA, this is VT and UVA. W&M, VCU, JMU and GMU are pretty good bonus schools and better than most states' "directional" schools. They are all in the national USNWR rankings. My "subpar" kid (4.0W and 34 ACT) only applied to JMU instate (other VA schools made no sense for his major) and chose it over UMD, which offered a nice scholarship. The other subpar kid went to an OOS land grant. It cost about as much as W&M in-state. If she had wanted to go in state, only VT had her major. Not EVERYONE wants to be an engineer. |
Don't knowo what you are looking at but UVA is T24 for USNWR now |
