Why is travel such a big part of our lives?

I can recollect, years later, what I did on my second day in Rome. Travel is a way of kicking ourselves off the rutted track, and remembering what it’s like to pay attention to every moment.

-Vacations are more fun than staying home.

-I’m happiest on or by the sea, but I live in a land locked area.

-It’s so interesting to have a change of pace.

-Other cultures are interesting.

-I love to eat my way through cities.

All of this. And aside from my children, it’s frankly the only thing that gives my life purpose. Without my children and my trips I would shrivel up and die.

I've met so many amazing people around the world (locals, not wealthy travelers) and it's just such an all encompassing feeling of warmth and belonging when you are in a foreign place and people welcome you like family.

I travel VERY differently than 99.9% of DCUMers though so can't answer for the majority.

So how do you travel?

But you don't understand, they travel differently, so that makes them better.

I don't travel to relax. I travel to see and learn. I think the anti-travelers think travelers are doing it for luxury or something.

The people I know who travel frequently get bored easily and aren't that connected to their community or have diverse friends. I don't blame them for anything, people are different. But I am never bored where I live, I'm constantly meeting new people and learning and admire those who have roots here.

Because you got your travel cup filled early on.
