So now that Biden is calling back federal workers, can NPS reopen Beach drive to commuters, please?

Metro sucks.

As a petite female, I really don’t feel safe on Metro. Maybe work on making it safer if you want to force people to ride Metro.

You are safer on the metro than in your car. Feelings are feelings, facts are facts. It's fine if you don't want to take it, but it's your choice.

I was assaulted and robbed on Metro during rush hour in front of many other commuters. The “kids” got away and there was no arrest. I will never ride metro again. I am and was not “safer on the metro” than in my car. This is a fact.

Some of you really can't distinguish between personal, rare experiences and statistics.
Yes, statistically you are safer riding the metro than you are driving your car. I'm sorry you were robbed but it doesn't negate at all what PP said.

Tell that to the bike lobby. The number of bicyclists killed in DC is roughly the equivalent of the number of Washingtonians who are eaten by sharks, and yet we hear endlessly about how unsafe the streets are and how we have to spend billions more to protect cyclists.

No, the only purpose is to protect the trees and animals that live in the national park.

Then why didn't they close the entirety of Beach? Why is the Parkway open?

They should. Would you like to start the petition process?

Anonymous wrote:Agree OP. I live on a DC street that has experienced an exponential growth in cut through traffic due to the weekday closure of Beach Dr plus the reduction in drive lanes on Connecticut Ave. A lot of this is rideshare drovers and Amazon/fed ex drivers who will never be eligible to take metro

This is a narrow east-west residential street and it’s utter bullshit that we suffer arterial-road levels of new traffic, all because of 45 hardcore MAMILs who who want to get their miles in on Beach Drive on a Tuesday at 2:30 pm l

If it is a public road, it isn't "cut through" traffic. Cut through traffic is when there is a field, and some drives across it to get to their destination. A road is a public space, meant to be used for people getting one place to another. That isn't 'cut through"

It’s unequivocally a safety issue when residential-designated streets - so classified based on their width, among other criteria— become default collectors and arterial roads. Example: 41st St NW. Davenport St NW adjacent to RCP.

Probably you should familiarize yourself with DDOT’s official classification before you prattle on again

I understand road classifications. But that doesn't change that if it is a road, it is open to use by people who want to use it and thus it isn't cut through. It is just traffic.

Labeling people in what you believe to be a degrading manner is very Trumpian. What you call "bike mafia" are in fact your neighbors, work colleagues etc.

Haha - the irony of this post. Calling someone a name for calling someone a name.

No one called anyone a name. It is a description, but if you are offended, then take a look in the mirror.

Ironic, indeed. Isn't Trump's campaign pollster a DC lobbyist/operative behind the pro-bike lane "Safer Connecticut Avenue" virtual group?

No, there isn't any Trump campaign pollster who is a DC lobbyist operative who is behind the pro-bike lane "Safer Connecticut Avenue" group (it isn't virtual, it exists)

Reopen Beach Dr 6:30 to 9:30 and 3:30 to 6:30 M-F. Keep in closed at all other times, including federal holidays. Everyone gets something.

Beach Drive is open.

People are really using the park like a park.

So you’d be in favor of removing the impervious paved surface and returning the road to a more amazing and beautiful natural condition?

Beach Drive is open.

+1

Anyone can use it. Just not for commuting from Maryland to DC.

By car.

I commute downtown (by car) and also live right along the park. I LOVE having it closed.

This would be an acceptable compromise

This is an idiotic response. Many people in this city commute by car. Despite what the 100 loudest members of the bike mafia say, that's not going to change anytime soon. Metro ridership is way down, and was dropping long before the pandemic. Build the city that people want, not the one you wish they wanted.

where do you live and where do you work? we can help you with a metro commute. otherwise, no, no sympathy for people who could easily get to metro but “just prefer to drive.”

No one want your help Karen. Metro all you want. You can pry my car keys from my cold dead hands. I will never step foot on metro. I would prefer to arrive alive and on time.

Then you can leave earlier if you insist on driving I guess? Not really sure what else you expect to happen. The days of decisions being made car first are over

Awww, sweetie, you’re precious. You got one thing. It does not in any way, shape or form mean “the days of decisions being made car first are over,” no matter how much you wish it did.
