The shine is off TR, Mundo, and Lee, and that makes people look more carefully at their other options. Aside from that whole weird thing with the principal firing a few years ago, JOW is solid.

Agree about JOW. That was an HR nightmare that could happen anywhere.

Disagree that the DCUM types are gonna stick with JO. Go take a look at the kindergarten classrooms and see if you see any picture books.

I'm confused, what's in the classrooms if not picture books? Chapter books or no books? Why not offer to donate books to the kindergarten teachers if they're short on books?

Only leveled readers. It's not a matter of money. The teachers were told they had to remove the picture books because the kids are "behind." They are falling prey to the "kill and drill" style of academics that doesn't work on any type of student but that high SES families with choice are NEVER gonna go for.

That's awful. Those leveled readers should be what's thrown out. Good to know and sorry your kids and teachers are dealing with that.

yup, we do (one kid in upper elem, one in lower elem). the teachers are all awesome and we are very happy.

generally, attrition has really slowed down, compared to 5 years ago.

except -- there is BIG attrition after 4th grade. Even the school administration advises students to lottery out and not go to Cardozo, and they have an annual Middle School Fair so that parents know the options. very, very, very few students go to Cardozo.

Do you mind sharing what made Hardy a bad experience?
