I went back and looked at the Washington Post article. The article is sort of interesting because it talks about Maury circa 15 years ago and the demographics at EH just 5 years ago and well it is different now. |
There aren't enough students testing at grade level for the IB program to be pulling mostly students at grade level. |
His son goes to Eastern. ![]() |
But his other kid does not. He made a different choice when it was available to him. Not sure why this is hard to understand. |
Easy enough. Look at the IB averages. I hear it’s 24 or 25. 24 is the minimum that you need to get the IB diploma. For top schools like Ivies, you need minimum 40-42. For top 20 schools high 30’s. Definitely not high achieving. Average IB scores are bottom of the barrel. |
Unfortunately, IBD Geneva HQ doesn't publish average scores by school, which makes it tough to know. Some schools publish their own IBD scores on their websites etc. Eastern, Banneker and DCI don't. But, yes, the conventional wisdom about Eastern's IBD scores is that they're in the 20s. |
The IB program at Eastern is essentially the grade-level group. 15% of students test 4+ on ELA, and 15% test 3+ on math. Total enrollment at Eastern is 766, so that’s ballpark 29 kids per grade. (For context, that pattern is typical of PARCC scores: the percent scoring 4+ in ELA is also virtually the same as the percent scoring 3+ in math at a lot of high schools, including Walls, Banneker, J-R, and Basis 9-12.) |
Just for fun, read about Eastern High School's Temitayo Adeola who just finished his first year at Columbia U. on a full ride scholarship.

classic striver immigrant story - likely came over with highly educated Nigerian parents at 11 and studied very hard. Same story as my German refugee relatives. I would love my kid to be in that atmosphere but I think most immigrant families that value education choose MD and VA over DC. |
Grand, but my kid's not a low SES black immigrant who might well get preferential treatment in elite college admissions. |
Joe Weedon and his disgusting minions are fine bullying others when they make other choices. His gross friend (also quoted in that article) bullied a Latino friend of mine and kept insisting that their kids needed to attend eastern since it was so “diverse”. She didn’t say her reason, just that they belonged there? I guess because they had brown skin? They’re disgusting people and need to mind their own business. |
I’m also convinced Joe weedon and his minions are just there to get clout off the back of black and brown kids which makes them racist in my eyes. |
Do any of you who are making these general accusations against Weedon have any links to actual quotes from him from before his daughter made the decision to attend SWW? What specifically are you claiming that he said back then? Links, please.

Most white UMC kids also don't have this EC profile: \ In the meanwhile, he is so busy – he can barely keep up. The band student is also involved in a social justice club, in his church choir, he’s a youth volunteer, and works at Chick-Fil-A. “The list goes on and on," Temi laughed. "I have an internship with DC public parks and have another part time job." |
Here’s just one example of his anti-charter advocacy: https://twitter.com/joeweedon/status/1516514315028905991 |
