When I applied a little more than a year ago, it took me a little over a month to hear back. 2 months from applying, until first sub start date (online orientation, forms and stuff, in person finger printing, various other menial things).

Thank you, that sounds reasonable. I will update when I hear more about the current app thats in.

The necessary background checks can take a long time and that has nothing to do with APS (was also an issue in other states)

Hmm, I dunno. What took a long time for me was getting a call for the interview after I had submitted everything. After the interview everything was fast.

Did you submit your background check authorization before or after the interview?

NO.

Have you had your in person interview and “onboarding“ yet?

I went to get my TB screen today (requirement to sub) and the nurse said several other people applying to sub for APS had been there that week as well. Sounds like the pipeline is moving.

Are they doing interviews again? When I applied, they were skipping the interview in APS. Way too time consuming.

If you are not willing to do the job stop complaining.

How does one qualify to be a sub? If I am a SAHM, can I sub as needed, like a side hustle?

Yes. You need a college degree. You also need recent professional references, but I think some people use references from volunteer positions, etc.

Two of my references were just friends.

True. You need 30 credits of college coursework though. If you don’t have that but have under 30 and a high school diploma, you can be a substitute assistant.
