How do you plan on observing Lent this year?

I’m giving up smoking and drinking

Several years ago, a friend introduced me to the plan to throw out 40 bags during Lent. Now a group of us embraces this plan every year.

I’m planning to focus here this year during Lent. I want to give things away, and commit to buying fewer unnecessary things. I turned 50 last year, I’ll be an empty nester later this year, and I feel like this is overdue.

I’m going to tell 1 person a day why I appreciate them.

Won't you run out of people pretty quickly?

No would you? 40 day - 40 people

At least you're thinking about it. I'm dealing with love letters from my grand parents! things sure were different in those days (teens and 1920's)

Let us know how that goes. This isn't snark but for real.

I try to reflect on what is keeping me from a closer relationship with God and a life with more gratitude. For me, I think it is my phone/doom scrolling. So for Lent, I'm trying to plug my phone in downstairs when I get home from work and not lay in bed/on the couch scrolling. Wish me luck! I hope you all have a fruitful Lent and emerge more connected to God.

Pp here. It was not a joke. I know I waste way too much much time in DCUM and often I get angry or upset about certain threads. I think I will be just fine

You're buying way too much stuff if you can throw that much out.

You never have to come back here. It's voluntary, you know. You should give up DCUM for good, not just for Lent. Also, you never have to respond to threads that offend you

Plus - you can always come back on Sundays during Lent. Sundays don't count. I think it's because that's the Lord's day. You can binge on DCUM or anything else you gave up for Lent.

Just to be clear, it’s not an exception.

Lent is 40 days and 40 nights and Sunday is the day of rest.

If you count the days between Ash Wednesday and Easter and skip the Sundays, it’s 40 days.
