Been on over 30 cruises including. I’ve done Alaska twice, Hawaii, two European River cruises, SoCal to Baja, all over the Caribbean, and Med.
I’ve sailed on every major cruise line in every stateroom from insides to the top suites. I have never gone hungry but tend to better food on smaller lines or in upcharge specialty restaurants where food is cooked Al a minute instead of for the masses. I have had good food on Carnival and horrid food on Disney. Worst drunks I have ever had seen were on Disney. I’ve rented cabanas on ships and on their private islands. You can be as active or as lazy as you want on a cruise. You unpack once and are taken to amazing destinations. We tend to do private tours or small sailboat snorkeling. We were in Barbados and were on a catamaran to go snorkeling. As we were leaving a huge “pirate ship” came up from another ship excursion and disgorged over 300 into the water. Yuck. We were in Naples where we went on a private tour to Pompeii with two other couples and had a private tour 90 minutes before the buses from the ships arrived. Food tours are another way to explore and never run into another cruise ship passenger. We did one in Cozumel with 7 ships (over 20K in port) and went to these amazing hole in the wall places we would have never found otherwise. I’ve been invited on several new ship inaugurals. We now don’t get off the ship in most Caribbean ports and it is like having the ship to ourselves. Best kids club for my kid was Carnival followed by Holland America. Worst was Disney. Best experience was Windstar and SeaDream Yacht Club. We obviously love cruises. Remember you can get norovirus anywhere where there are crowds. Schools, hospitals, shopping centers and yes cruises. They are incredibly clean, but people not washing their hands are the biggest issue. They are not floating “Petri dishes”. Royal Caribbean has Broadway style shows. Have seen Grease, Hairspray and Chicago on ships. NCL had a great show of Rock of Ages. They are what you make of them. I obviously love them. |
| Didn’t like at all. Did a small vessel cruise. Got sea sick terribly in rough seas and that’s all she wrote. I will never cruise a larger vessel because the culture of “over eating, the idea of people trying to eat and drink their fee, a floating cesspool of humanity” |
| I wouldn't enjoy because of the terrible environmental impact and the exploitation of the staff. |
