Name a book critic favorite that you didn’t like

Some of my recent dislikes:
Mad honey
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
Lessons in chemistry

I’ve read all of these and hated T3. In fact, I started a thread here about disliking it and most people disagreed. I’ve started Chemistry twice but haven’t managed to finish it. I thought Mad Honey was ok, but I find JP a bit overwrought at times, including here.

I need you in my book clubs!
I usually like Jodi Picoult, but I don't know if it was about using a coauthor or the transgender storyline feeling like a gimmick that turned me off to to the book. Everyone else absolutely loved it though!

Could not make it through My Brilliant Friend. Got so bored.

Also hated Crawdads, Candy House, and Manhattan Beach. Feel bad about the last two since Goon Squad is probably one of my all time favorite books

Wow, I loved all those books!

What are your favorite books?

And yes, I feel guilty for not liking it.

I disliked it too. I didn’t find the writing to be as compelling as “The Warmth of Other Suns,” which I absolutely loved.

My pick is Lessons in Chemistry. Utter drivel.

As a woman scientist, I wanted to burn Lessons in Chemistry. So pathetic. Melodrama and self-pity passing for literature. Have we no standards anymore?
That said, I love Ishiguro. Klara and the Sun was slow, and not his best, but it was a good try in the age of AI. But it is a somewhat disappointing 21st century teen-centric rewrite of Remains of the Day, which remains profoundly Nobel-worthy and a novel for the ages, especially as I grow older myself.
