Langley pyramid vs. private school in mclean (the Langley school or Potomac)

Stay in your pyramid through 6th and enter private for 7th. Steer clear of Langley School unless your child is questioning their gender identity. Langley has become woke beyond belief and the kids who are still busy being kids are either forced to go along with their agenda or end up leaving the school. Buyer beware.

Does anyone have an update to this or alternate opinions? Thanks
DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) statements are featured on nearly every school website. Take Potomac's, for example, or similar statements from public schools. However, what really matters is how these principles are practiced in reality. The same DEI statement can be implemented in many different ways, and the true impact is seen in day-to-day actions, not just words.

What is the transition like from a private school such as little Langley or Potomac to public high school? I’m considering private schools for elementary and middle school but am thinking about switching to public for high school.

transition is fairly easy going from private to public but your kids will be in the minority of their class who do so. The kids who have done it have had no issues and been successful in the public schools

I definitely have the answer. All the people I know of with kids in the Potomac Langley School are grossly over privileged, wealthy, obscenely high incomes, kids are micro managed and spoiled down to every activity, the parents all hang out with each other in this ridiculous over the top catered parties, the level of wealth, privilege and access is just insane. It’s just rich people cosplay 24/7. Of course that is why they opted for it! It’s not education. It’s certainly NOT diversity. It’s access to wealth and privilege and cementing your own wealth and privilege. And seeing the exact same people in your school, your social circle, your overpriced camps, and your vacations in Aruba, Atlantis, Vail and Italy!!! Constant privilege cosplay. It’s crazy.

I can’t speak to Potomac. But this poster is totally off the mark with (little) Langley. The families there are very down to earth. A large number of dual income families. This person seems to be weirdly invested in people choosing a different path for their kids. “Rich people cosplay”? LOL OP, it sounds as if some private school mommies did you wrong. I think you need to seek therapy.

+1
I can speak for Potomac and this has not been our experience at all, either. Yes there is tons of money there, but there are also kids from every socio economic background you could imagine. It is incredibly diverse. Aside from the makeup, the education is fabulous. It is all at the school so zero need for tutors, outside centers, etc. They also educate the whole child and focus on core values and the kids really learn and live these. It's a wonderful environment.

This is a perfect example of what you are paying for in private school. The education isn’t that different, but you are paying for the social emotional part as well.

Former Little Langley mom here and we live in the Langley High School pyramid as well. Langley is nice and nurturing but I honestly question our decision of sending our kids to Langley from K-8. I could justify the amount we spent for private high school but not earlier. If we put their Langley tuition money in a fund that mimicked the S&P 500, they would have easily had $750K each by the time they graduated. Most of our friends went the public school route and their kids ended up in similar colleges to ours.

Huge difference between public and independent- no question. As a mom of four boys who lives in the Langley pyramid- we did 2 at public and 2 at independent. Hands-down more teacher attention, smaller class size, attention to character, better community at the independent school.

Save your money for high school.

Save private for high school. Former little Langley parents huge waste of money went back to public.

I think it depends on your child. If there is a reason they would do significantly better in a smaller class size with more individual attention, then private can be wonderful. Our first was so shy, private did wonders for her confidence. Have also seen it as great for kids who need more accountability, more of a push academically, more of a challenge academically, etc. Kids do not fly under the radar in private.
If you feel like your child doesn't really need those things (which many don't), I'd save the money and see how things go for elementary then make a decision for middle/HS. In a nutshell, as a parent who has had two kids go all the way through private, I wouldn't go without a specific reason.

Thank you for warning others. Complete waste of money and now super woke.

We had multiple children in FCPS AAP who are now at Langley. We would never send them back to public. There is a huge difference in the amount of individual attention they receive and their involvement in the school community. All of our kids love school at Langley.
