Predicting adult height

DS was always off the chart 100% +. Yes it was accurate. I’m 4”taller than avg female - ped predicted DS could easily be 4” taller than avg male, and he is.

Tallest woman in my extended family is 5-4. Most of us hover 4-10 to 5-2.

Tallest man is my brother at 5-10. Most of the men are 5-6ish.

I do think it is mostly genes.

When our first was 6 weeks old I asked the dr how tall he’d be. He was born with huge feet. Dr asks how tall
His dad was and I answer 6’1. He said oh he’ll be taller than that. He’s 6’4. Size 16 feet. I’m 5’7.
Next son was 9 lbs when he was born but only 18 inches long. So chubby.
Dr says again taller than dad. He’s 6’3. And 170 lbs at age 30.

You asked at 6 weeks old? yeez, a bit obsessive

I'm curious about this too because our ped is predicting that our DD6 will be 6'1". It's been a bit of a surprise because I am 5'6 and DH is 5'9.

No one in either my nor Dh's immediate families of origin is over 5'10". However, my dad grew up in an orphanage so I guess there couldn't be tall genes somewhere that we don't know about?

The two men I know who are significantly taller than average cannot stop talking about it. Like, one of them even refers to his height as his anonymous name in social media posts. I am not sure how that one will turn out because he's still young, but the other one treats his height the cornerstone of his identity. Talk to him for 15 minutes and he will mention his height. It's tedious.

How funny! Dude—we can see that you’re tall. It’s not an accomplishment.

dp.. clearly that person had some height insecurity when they were younger, and has very little self esteem even now. This is a dumb thing to focus on. Your height has zero to do with *you*. It's mostly your genes, and nothing you accomplished.

Not necessarily. Mom of tall boys here, it’s something people start commenting on when they are young and they hear a ton of positive feedback at an early age. It’s like a beautiful little girl - really hard to keep it from becoming part of their identity. My one son really hated it. He was embarrassed that people thought he was older than he was. Swim parents were jerks about it… Our society places a really weird importance on height for men (this thread for example). Usually tall parents have tall kids, short parents have short kids, and genetics are a mixed bag.

PSA - please don’t comment on kids bodies.

For our kids, it always said way higher - they were tall toddlers. And it turned out to be significantly off for both of our kids, as expected.

Our kid just surpassed the calculator indicating a shorter final height. I knew it was wrong. :p

My kid had huge feet as a child, but she fell into the 5th percentile for height. Always the shortest kid in class. At 15, she started growing and finally stopped at age 19 when she grew to 5'9.

Yes, she grew into her feet.

I was one of the tallest girls in my class through 4th grade and got a ton of comments. I got my period at 12 and and 5'3. My father is 5'9 and my mother is 5'5, so that's probably where I should be. My daughters are on the tall side and while my husband is tall at 6'0 I have a feeling they may be like me and be the tallest through elementary school before topping out in 5th or 6th grade.

Yes, she grew into her feet.

DH always joked that DD had big puppy dog feet. She's 14, still growing.

DS was always average but hit growth spurt in HS and just kept growing. That was a surprise and the predictions were all wrong. There are tall grandparents so I think it's not always parents' heights that matter.

I hope the predictions are wrong for my DS. He is only 11% for height at age 11. I am 5'8 and DH is 5'10. Seems like he should be at least 50%.

Not for the girls. Yes for the boy. My guess is that the girls went through puberty early and stopped growing.

I'm 5'3 Their dad 6'2"

Daughter 1 was supposed to be 5'9" Is 5'4"

Daughter 2 was supposed to be over 6' Is 5'7"

Son was supposed to be between 6'1" and 6'2" and is 6'1.5"
