Honestly, I’m terrified a family of abusers would move into my rental with a domestic worker who’s abused and trafficked. So, not too keen to even out myself in that situation. These should be massive jail sentences and immediate job losses. |
Do not rent to World Bank people who just relocated from developing countries. They are extremely cheap. They might have good salaries and benefits, but they are not habitual in the US way of life, i.e. treat people who work for you nicely, including your landlord and household staff. |
Diplomatic immunity just means that you are subject to the laws of your home country and not your host country. |
In reality it means they get reposted and you get shafted. The only reason Anne Bakilana got a felony is that she didn’t have diplomatic immunity. Even then she’s still in DC and at the World Bank |
| I hate reading about these abusers; no impunity |
| Does Landlord have any liability? In these cases |
| Depends what country they are from. I am from a developing country and there is a reason the photos you see of dirty streets and banged up cars. |
And diplomats can have diplomatic clauses (we rented out to diplos, foreign and US, and are ourselves) |
I meant cases like US v this World Bank employee Bakilana, An |

Is Landlord liable? Are there signs to look for. |

Here is the DC focused report. Shocking! At least with Anne Bakilana there was a prosecution because the World Bank employees don’t have immunity. It is shocking after a cursory Google that she’s still around, of course, and no doubt will apply for a Green Card as they all do after decades of living here and not paying taxes (it should be a strong deny). But diplomatic immunity is way worse. As a Landlord it’s gross it’s disturbing and no thanks

| I don’t think it’s that easy to apply for a green card after being here, even years, on a diplomatic visa. |
| There’s a DINK diplomat couple in my neighborhood where both of them work for the embassy. Lovely neighbors though I’m guessing dual embassy couples are a rare thing. |
Really? Much easier than if you worked and paid taxes. It’s pretty egregious |
