Um. Everyone in France wears sneakers. Maybe not ones as colorful as here, but sneakers are everywhere.

I admire the entrepreneurs in European cities that started making "universite de palermo" etc. sweatshirts. They must sell so many of those sweatshirts to US study abroad students and their visiting families.

Leggings
Too much makeup, especially heavy eye makeup
Overly-styled hair, especially where it's clear you used a curling iron or hair spray
Exercise sneakers - fashion sneakers like Vejas are good, your Brooks running shoes are only for exercise
Non-natural hair color like bleached blonde
Heavy Botox or plastic surgery
Wearing skirts or dresses without tights in cooler weather

+1

In Spain

Overly-styled hair as per above
Exercise sneakers
Shorts (esp khaki shorts)
Polo shirts on women
Unisex/androgynous sweaters
Wearing pantyhose with skirts or dresses in warm weather
Bleached blonde hair

I can pick out the Americans by their morbid obesity.

It is rare that Americans are not overweight.

You will know us by our girth, good teeth and jeans.

One reason Americans in general are overweight is because of our work culture. It's a badge of honor to be a workaholic, chasing after the almighty dollar which by the way affords us the ability to travel to Europe so we can be ridiculed, and also spend our almighty dollars which in turn helps keep their dying economies afloat. Go ahead, come after me.

athletic shoes, NOT fashion sneakers
shorts
baggy clothes
stiff hair for women
bright makeup colors
full face of makeup, especially full coverage foundation, during daytime, also while wearing athleisure
sweatpants

additionally
very overweight / obese - sorry PP, UK is the fattest country in Europe (27% obese) but significantly lower than US (36%)
short men - almost all European countries have taller men than Americans
walking in groups and blocking the sidewalk
being loud
not smoking

+1 and carrying an nice leather handbag while wearing athleisure or sweatpants

Definitely not so re: Spain

Athleisure. Bonus point if in full make up and hair super styled.
Footwear. People who live in cities usually own a few pairs of comfortable walking shoes that are not what they wear for gym. I guess because Americans are mostly driving around, their idea of footwear for walking is running shoes.

A Spanish friend once commented to me that she can pick out American men by their "shoes like trucks."
