Dog that is the least work

Anonymous
As most people are saying, one or two cats is better for least amount of work. With automatic water and feeder and a Litter Robot self-cleaning litterbox, you probably only need to do like 15 min/month of maintenance (emptying the litter). You can also still go on vacation for a week or two and it's much cheaper bc the cats are fine by themselves at home.

For a dog, even a laid back one, you still need to take it out for 15 min a day in the cold, assuming your dog is a lazy potato like mine and just wants to potty and come right back inside. Most dogs aren't lazy potatoes and need to actually be walked, which is always hard to do in the wintertime when it's cold. Also, the kennel/dog sitter costs to place your dog when you are on vacation is very high and you have to worry about things like "can't go on a 12 hour day trip without my dog, because I need to walk them". It's easier with a fenced yard though.

^ To clarify I take my dog out three times a day for 5 minutes each. This is very unusual, most people need to take their dogs on a long 20+ min walk to get the energy out.
