What are you grateful for?

This has been done before, but seems time for another thread:

Books. The library is one of my favorite places
Fire in the fireplace
Cozy slippers and blanket
Chai lattes
Friends to laugh with
Friends to cry with
the beautiful day today and the changing leaves
handwritten notes
a dose of "bad" tv every once in awhile (access hollywood, Grays Anatomy, etc.)
playing with a dog
cuddling my kids
a long hot shower
great old jeans and a warm sweater
putting pictures from the summer away in albums
candles
lip balm

I could go on and on. I keep a running, random list. I find it makes a huge difference in my mood and I always look back and realize that most things are no or low cost. Add some of yours!

My children. I just learned that a child in our scout pack passed away last night unexpectedly due to sudden illness. I will hold my chidlren closer than ever after school today.

* my comfy fleece pants (like sweatpants, only less shapeless) - wonderful on cool nights.
* flannel sheets (see above).
* winter means not having to shave my legs quite as often.
* red wine.
* lots of TV channels for long, boring winter evenings.
* ready-made cake frosting, as I've never quite mastered my mom's "from scratch" icing and my daughter needs a birthday cake.
* that my daughter is healthy and happy, i.e. at a "challenging" phase.
* that even though money is tighter than it used to be, i have a roof over my head and a decent job.

* The view from my bedroom window - so many trees, because our back neighbor doesn't insist on chopping them down

* Books

* My family and friends

* Decent health

* At least having a part-time job (better than no job!)

* The fall - my favorite season

* Not being forced to get a flu vaccine, H1N1 or otherwise - sorry, but I really am glad it's not mandatory

* Lattes - even though they're a waste of money

--My brilliant husband, who treats me like a treasure and teaches me about love every day
--being born in this country into a life of limitless opportunity
--my daughter-- though I wouldn't call the feeling "grateful." More like deep love and appreciation.
--friends
--health
--the ability to provide an education, a good home, and many avenues for wonder and excitement to my child
--being able to write for a living

Pretty much everything, right down to the stuff I complain about, because I recognize that (1) I have stuff and (2) time to complain. My life, though stressful and frustrating and far from perfect, is overall just really really great. We're mostly healthy, mostly happy, mostly doing well.

Health. My friend lost her newborn recently. Every day, I am thankful for my amazing family and their health.

I know this boy too, and was about to give your answer.

Oh, I can't imagine what those parents are going through. Thank you for the perspective.

Family. It's the most important thing in the world. Last week one of the doctors at the hospital told my husband he could die. Today he seems to no longer be in an urgent emergency situation, but we are still waiting on the results of the last scan. The past week has been the most difficult week in my life. I am so very grateful for my husband.

Doesn't it kill you to hear about ingrates, given our answers? The best is, "gotta pick the gender!" STFU!

Good idea! I used to keep a running list of my likes, it was called "natural highs". I started because I had seen someone else's list. Anyways, I need to start that again! Thanks for writing that!

soft peppermint candies
my kids are (mostly) healthy
my husband is healthy
the feeling I got today when I found a lost cat and I found its owner
the way trees look after it rains -- the bark is darker and the leaves are more brilliant
my occassional latte just for me
Cadbury cream eggs

And these are not in order of importance!

Why even bring the negative energy to this thread? Why?

I am grateful for

a quick recovery from the flu

when my nursing baby stares at me

my morning coffee

my husband telling bedtime stories to our toddler

my warm home

my cozy bed

my handsome, sweet sons who always make me smile

for bananas

home made meatballs

fall walks to the park listeing to the leaves crunch

centering my energy and feeling good

Having a baby against all possible odds. She is glorious. So much so that it didn't bother me last month when a mother I didn't know remarked that I was such a youthful grandmother.
