Nosebleeds anyone?

Anonymous
Every morning I have a nosebleed and I'm sick of it! I'm terrified of getting a cold, because I can't blow my nose without it bleeding these days. Damn all this extra blood in my body! Anyone else have this? I think I'm going to sleep with a humidifier on tonight and see if that helps at all.

Yes, I have had nosebleeds along with congestion since pretty early on (I am 20 weeks now, so it's been a few months). They are definitely getting worse with the colder/dryer weather, so a humidifier might help. I haven't tried one yet since I need to get filters for ours or find a decent one that doesn't use wicks that get gross after two days, but I've been using a neti pot when I get really congested. The neti pot feels nice but it doesn't really help with the bleeding.

It does suck, and aside from humidifiers/neti pots and keeping hydrated I don't think there is much you can do. I hear some people put vaseline or something like it up their noses but I don't think I could stand that.

I'm so glad you posted this because I was actually starting to get worried. Now tham I'm 21 weeks I'm not throwing up as much, but for a while my nose would start gushing every time I threw up. I have a cold now and it often starts bleeding if I cough particularly hard or blow my nose too hard. (not as annoying as the fact that I leak urine when I cough, but that's a different thread)

I had constant nosebleeds while I was pregnant, and for a while post-partum too. It's the higher blood volume.

I have them constantly... well at least every morning and sometimes throughout the day. Since I'm also wheezing (I'm carrying high at 32 weeks, he's breech), it's sooo hard to breathe. My major anti-stress is deep breathing but now I just have to laugh instead.

I'm glad to know others have the same problems.

Dracula would be proud!

I've never experienced this, but my sister has had nosebleeds with both of her pregnancies. I used to think this was an unusual pregnancy symptom, but it seems like it's pretty common.

I haven't had actual nosebleeds, but recently (29w now) I've often seen a little blood after blowing my nose. The fact that I'm on baby aspirin probably contributes.

I have been experiencing nose bleeds too! Here is what my OB recommended and it has been helpful for me...

Like others have said, use a humidifier. Also, saline spray a few times throughout the day and definitely at night helps. It also helps to put a little bit of Vaseline on a Q-tip and apply that to the inside of your nostrils.
