So they don't teach cursive in FCPS and they barely teach handwriting. So I'm wondering when/if they teach typing and start using computers for assignments?
They don't teach typing in FCPS.
No one teaches typing. You can easily get an app and work on it at home.
My kids were taught keyboarding in elementary school. |
I had my tweens take a sumner typing class through ACE. My 7th grader is getting a little practice in his STEM Solutions elective class. It is also called computer solutions in some schools. Otherwise there is no instruction.
Mine routinely get assignments and need to type them in Google docs. No typing class needed.
Pp - this was from 3rd grade on.
My kids learned typing in preschool
It is beyond ridiculous to not teach typing. Cursive I can see since no one needs it I guess but typing is now essential.
Gee. I bet our kids don't even know what carbon paper is. In fact, I bet lots of you have never used it. |
What do they teach beside fortnight?
CC is the new carbon copy paper |
I agree they are important skills to have, but the amount of instructional time I have available seems to shrink every year recently. I barely have time to touch on social studies in ES. Cursive is still part of the Program of Studies and I try to squeeze it in, but there isn't enough time to get everything in.
Not in our elementary school. Provided parents online apps to use over the summer.
What do parents do anymore? What doesn’t school cover now? Im sorry, people, some of this is your job!
