Recommend major/career path for math-loving girl

DD thinks engineering- maybe architecture. She loves math and is very good at chemistry. Even though she's very creative, she's looking for a career where she can earn some money and the starting salaries of engineers are appealing to her. Advice?

She should look at the various majors and find one that sounds interesting.

Engineering! I'm a female engineer and have had a very enjoyable career. Also, many engineering professions/industries can be flexible with lots of part time and work from home options. I didn't really think about that bonus when I was in college, but now that I'm a mom with two kids, it's a huge advantage.
You won't become a zillion-aire as an engineer, but you'll almost always have an interesting, enjoyable job where you get to work with other smart and interesting people.

Chemical engineering and environmental engineering have more women and lead to pretty cool careers.

Architecture is more about art than math/engineering. If she wants to build things, she should look at civil engineering.

You should be a career counselor.

Thank you for this useful reply! Would you mind telling me what your day to day job is like? What types of things could she actual hope to DO as an engineer- as opposed to what she would study in school?

When we toured Bucknell, there seemed to be quite a few female chemical engineering majors.

If she doesn't like CS that would preclude AI.

Architects are the lowest paid of any professionals. I'm a female engineer but computer science. Is she sure she wouldn't like that? Data Science is a good one - so much demand for it but it definitely has a programming side. I actually loved my Nuclear Engineering class back in college - used complicated calculus. Chemical Engineering might be a good one too if she likes Chemistry. I was always more of a Physics girl myself. Structural Engineer is another good one - lots of math and ties in with buildings/architecture.

But, I'd definitely have her look into engineering. Enjoy...makes me want to go back to school!
