Clubs in middle school

Anonymous
DD & DS are both starting middle school this year, and are looking for some fun clubs to join. They are pretty much open to anything as long as it is fun, so if your kid has had a good experience with a specific club, please recommend it.
The only thing is, DS objects to anything that has to do with art

Yearbook club was fun.

It all depends on your kid and the school. But, for mine...DS liked working tech crew for a play. DD likes TAB (book club) and hiking club.

My kid loved working on the MS yearbook, but at her school it was an elective class and not an after school club, so you had to be enrolled to participate.

She also likes book clubs. Her MS, unfortunately, didn't have a general one just a Harry Potter themed club but she quit after two meetings when it became obvious that the rest of the students preferred to talk about the movies rather than the books and she wasn't really interested in that.

Running club was good while the weather was nice. She's not a winter sort of kid so that fizzled when it got too cold out.

The FCPS MS clubs are great. But depends on kid and the school. Both my kids did debate. Lot of work, but they loved it. One also did jazz band.

Just watch at the beginning of the year, because at some schools you have to try out for clubs near the beginning of school.

Is your kid nerdy, sporty, artistic, wants to volunteer? The specific club matters less than whether your kid enjoys it.

But definately encourage your kid to do 1-2. It’s a great way to be involved in the school.
