I'm approaching an FET and I keep hearing about ERA or a "scratch." When would this happen? Should I request it or has the ship sailed if my FET is scheduled for early September?
Thanks! |
Era is basically a mock FET cycle- you take all the meds like you were doing a transfer except instead they do a biopsy. So if you’re scheduled for a FET in early September that ship has sailed. You could convert it to an ERA though. Don’t know anything about the scratch.
ERA and scratch are different. As the previous poster said, an era is done in a mock fet cycle. The purpose is to see if your lining is in sync with the age of the embryo - some people need an extra day or two of progesterone before the transfer to get their lining in the perfect spot. This is around a 6 week process with all the meds and is usually only done when you have had multiple failed transfers. A scratch is where they go in and scratch your uterus to make it need to heal so the lining ends up thicker the next cycle. I had a scratch done while on birth control gearing up for FET, so a month before transfer.
I have an ERA scheduled for 10th of September. I am taking estrogen tablets 3 times a day and i will be starting my progesterone shots 5 days before my ERA.If you have had previous failed ivf cycles i would definitely recommend an ERA.
If you have just a limited number of embryos or PGS normals and no way of making more easily then the ERA might still be worth it to maximize your chances. My friend works at a fertility clinic in the Middle East and they include ERA as part of the standard testing. Their success rates are very high.
I am in my ERA cycle before my final FET. Its a whole extra cycle which for me is 8 weeks. It feels interminable ... ERA is currently scheduled for week of 9/17 but ill know for sure on 9/10 assuming my lining thickens as expected.
