Taylor class assignment “glitch”

Anonymous
I acknowledge that I am a nervous mom to a kindergartner and that this is my first experience with APS. But after sending out class assignments on Friday, the Taylor principal has now sent two follow-up emails indicating that some portion of the assignments were incorrect. Such a bad first impression!! I am holding off on calling the school, as I’m sure they are underwater right now, but GEEZ.

Thank you! I know this won’t matter in a few weeks, I just need to breathe and move on.

Ugh. You, not them.

Happened at McKinley too. Perhaps they are at the last minute adding or subtracting a class and need to reassign kids. We do t go there but friends who do are happy so deep breath. It will end up okay

APS gonna APS.

It does seem amateurish, but I'd worry more later when they can't keep track of grades or assessments.

Teachers handle those. That will be fine. Anything admin does is different.

This is why I’m glad my school doesn’t send out class assignments. Too many opportunities for mistakes and a waste of office staff time. Just post the class lists outside the school before open house and be done with it.

Many people are away this week, so open house only is not a good idea. And life will go on if you have to adapt to a follow-on email.

Then why can’t they just look at the posted list when they return or on the first day of school? Why does one HAVE to know the name of the teacher the week before school starts?

Because they are 800 kids. At our school they line up outside and parents are not allowed in. It would be chaos if at least half of them didn’t know where to line up!

What exactly does the email say (we're not Taylor)? Kindergarten can be the worst year for these things because if you get a handful of people who don't register until a week before school starts and suddenly they have to add another class and rearrange everyone. If it were simply that there was an error in the mail merge and some people were sent incorrect assignments, that's easy enough to fix. If you've been told to stand by for possible changes, that's more likely an enrollment issue, which may be entirely outside their control.

Our school doesn’t even have an open house except for kindergarten.
And finding out on the first day of school would be chaotic, as noted.
