Anyone planning on going to the DC H1N1 clinics?

Anonymous
According to my ob office, the only real option for me to the H1N1 vaccine are the clinics the city is hosting. Honestly, my gut says this has bad idea written all over. I envision something operating with the efficiency of the DMV (or worse, frankly). I'm horrified at the thought. Is anyone planning on getting their H1N1 vaccine at these clinics? Anyone more optimistic about these places?

I am having the same thoughts as you, but am in the same boat, as my OB isn't getting the vaccine. Also, do you know if you can go to any of the clinics or do you have to stick to your ward? it doesn't say anywhere.

The DMV is a nightmare but most of the time you walk out with your license. I don't think there's any health-related reason not to go to the DC clinics, and a couple of hours of headache seems like a small price to pay for a potentially lifesaving vaccine. Since it doesn't sound like you have any other options, what's the question?

I may be overly optomistic but I don't think the DC clinics will be a bad experience. My experience in Silver Spring was the opposite of chaos. It was boring. An orderly line of people that shuffled along with workers every few yards to directly them. Bring something to read and eat/drink and you'll be fine.

I am going with my 2 children. From what I have read, it may be available at other locations in November but my niece has already had the H1N1 flu. I can not afford to have my children home for a week or for me to come down with it and from what I understand it takes about 2 weeks to build up the resistance. I do not want to test my luck with waiting until late November for resistance to kick in.

OP here. My understanding is that you can go to whatever ward is convenient for you.

On another note, if you don't get the issue, please don't bother posting a response. It's not helpful, and I don't have time to post again using smaller words.

I'm planning to go to the one tonight. I doubt DC will manage the orderliness of Maryland, but I expect they will eventually give me the vaccine if I stand there long enough - and since I also don't have another option, I'm happy to wait. At least it's nice weather!

My OB has the vaccine, but DD's pediatrician doesn't so I will be going to a clinic for her vaccine. She's in day care so I figure it's just a matter of time before it hits.

I plan to go to one of the DC clinics. I was just happy finally had info on where to get shot didn't think about what it will be like. But when you mentioned DMV I had to think back on that horrible experience. But ultimately I think will be fine- since will be high demand just need to go in expecting the worse and knowing you will have to wait. I think I will bring a book/magazine.

Hey, at least DC is having clinics. I'd really like to know what Fairfax county is doing with its vaccines.

will the dc clinics vaccinate parents, if we are not in the priority group. i have a son with asthma and would hate to get it an expose him to it.

When you do go to these clinics, tip here: bring your own pen, some purell hand sanitizer, do not over dress (it gets hot standing in line), an ipod/book/magazine.

Oh and I forgot to mention: also bring a bottle of water and a light snack. (just in case you are there for a while)
