Can we take a break from dicussing the RC church for a while?
Do you attend morning minyan during Elul? Are you aware that the shofar is blown at morning services (at least in traditional shuls, I can't speak for Reform) every day (except shabbos) in Elul? Are you doing anything to prepare, spiritually, for the High Holidays? Are you planning to attends selichot services before Rosh Hashanah? Is your shul doing anything particularly interesting for selichot? Do you need any of these terms translated? |
I know it is so boring these hundreds and thousands of kids being molested. NEXT....(sarcasm) |
I honestly don't think a dozen different threads about the RC church, leaving the RC church, etc, is actually going to either undo that, or solve the church's problems, or prevent more of it. Its coming off as vengeful, or obsessive. And there are, you know, other religions, with legitimate other things to discuss. Like, for example, the Hebrew month of Elul, a traditional time of preparation for the Jewish New Year. Are YOU doing anything special for Elul? |

We're not but my husband doesn't travel from RH through ST so I'm excited!!!
I like waiting until RH to hear the shofar! |
| Is this some kind of Chabad outreach thread? |
|
I'm also a little sick of hearing about the RC church. Whoever invented this idea of "marrying" Gd was sick. Without finding some sort of companionship, humans are unable to grow spiritually. All humans need physical companionship and when a dictator suppresses it, this is what happens. If the RC church cared about making a difference, they would admit that NO one is more connected to Gd than anyone else, and allow their spiritual leaders to marry and procreate.
Let's talk about Elul! So excited to be getting into one of four new years throughout the year!!! |
No. All forms of Judaism have an interest in Elul. |
Not quite getting the concept here. |
Yes but the post isn't about the OP's own experience, or asking questions s/he wants answered. Seems like the point of the thread is to get people to go to shul during Elul. |
Yeah, so? You do realize that all forms of Judaism encourage shul going? And that selichot services are a big deal in modern Orthodox, Conservative, and at least some Reform shuls? |
+1000 |
And that there's a difference between a possessive and a contraction? |
| I’m so confused. Is this a quiz? This tone is so contrary to my experience as a Jew. |
| Do you realize that for non-Ashkenazim selichot are recited daily without a special service? Please check your privilege. |
I will worry about it more when you pay me to edit my DCUM titles. |
