They came out today with the new rankings. Thoughts? |
Very interesting to see how some ratings have changed so drastically. |
Oakton High ratings seem to have dropped considerably !!! Disappointed - we just moved into this HS area ![]() ![]() |
Seriously, you’re fretting because of what one website says? Perhaps you might develop some confidence in your kid and yourself. It’s really going to be okay. Your kid will be fine. |
F the kids, I’m worried about property values. |
Greatschools is the score that affects property values. Not Schooldigger. |
Lol |
Oakton parent, don't fret about school digger ratings.
School digger is not a legitimate rating source. It uses flawed methodology. School digger ranks Key Center as #1 in the state, above TJ. Key center does a wonderful job at achieving its purpose, but it is not the number one high school in the state and should not even be part of this ranking system. Key center is a special needs magnet for the most severe disabilities. The students at Key are not taking SOLs or SATs; they are working on very different things than a mainstream high school. Based on Key being #1 in Virginia, their ranking must rely heavily or exclusively on class ratios (around 6:1 at Key). Some of the other top schools on that list are schools in other parts of the state that are never at the top of ranking lists. I bet if you look into it, the scores are much lower than fcps, but rheir student/teacher ratio is much lower. |
I'm really confused, because my kids' ES test scores actually went up, across the board, for every demographic (and the "gap" is narrower than ever before), yet our school digger score tanked. Meanwhile, we went up two points on GS and are now considered a "great" school, when we were average before. What gives? What's the new School Digger methodology? Is it parent rating-based? Because we have an ex-PTA pres who left the school in a huff write a terrible review two years after the fact that was not rooted in any reality, just her long-simmering anger. |
Like I posted above, Key Center is #1 in the state above TJ. That is all you need to know about the validity of school digger ratings |
Both GS and school digger have their flaws, but it’s interesting to note that Wise Co (in Appalachia) is the 4th highest ranked county in the state. Above Fairfax or Arlington. Hmm. |
What?!? No, no way. My husband grew up near there and, just no. Okay, well I used to think School Digger was a bit more accurate than GS, because it looked at teacher ratios and showed growth vs. proficiency (test scores), while GS just reflected the schools' demographics. But no way is Wise county outperforming FFX and VA in the aggregate, nor are providing superior education. |
LOL Post of the year! |
I thought Schooldigger just went by test scores. Apparently I'm wrong? |
Schooldigger does not as based off their latest rankings. |
